Tyress Cunningham on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Tyress Cunningham. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Tyress , it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? Who are you learning from right now?
I’m learning from past and present situation. Both are intertwined on this journey to the future of my legacy.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Tyress Cunningham from Rockford, Illinois I’m 43 years old and I’m a published Author of two books titled Conflict of Interest and No Hope . I’m also the proud owner of Mirror Affect car wash

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My mom would make me and my brother go to church with her and my grandma. After Sunday service this great big giant man that stood 6 foot 4 inches tall and weighted 240 was the pastor of the church and he would shake everyone hands as we would leave the building. When I would approach him to shake his hand. He would look down on my little frame as boy and smile and he would say . Oh young man you are going to touch many people with your story. People will fill up rooms to hear what you have to say.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
To me suffering and success brings out the same results in people around you.
It brings out people feelings about you
You’ll see who’s who to you.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Overall yes . I’m the same person at home or out in public. I’m just me
But I like to keep my private life separate every thing is not for the public. I’m sure you would agree

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
My story will tell itself. Through my artwork of penmanship. Photos and articles from your interviews with me.
My giving back to my community and changing my life from the streets to being an example for someone else who wants to leave that lifestyle
