Today we’d like to introduce you to Will Thomas.
Hi Will, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started filmmaking about 12 years ago in Jacksonville, Florida. It’s funny how I started originally. I was a music producer making beats for local talent. When the artist would record the music video portion, it frustrated me so much b/c the video quality was absolutely garbage. So I decided to start shooting videos myself to create buzz for my production. But what winds up happening is I fell in love with video production and gave up producing. And by the power of God, by the 3rd music video, I shot it was featured on BET’s 106 & Park. From there, my career took off, which eventually led me to moving to ATL
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My road to where I am wasn’t without its struggles. The biggest fight has always been not worrying about what other people are doing. What’s for them is for them and what’s for me is for me.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in making films these days. I started off a music video/commercial director but I have transitioned to films. I’m most proud of a project we shot “Godchaserz: The Documentary” during the pandemic. It’s a film that follows a group of gospel rappers lead by Brinson to some of the wildest places around the world rapping for Jesus. What makes me different from other filmmakers is my goals is to merge black culture with Christian culture.
What matters most to you?
Telling transparent films about complicated people. I want to show the world that it is ok to have grey areas in your life as long as you are seeking the light.
