Daily Inspiration: Meet Georgii Speakman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Georgii Speakman.

Hi Georgii, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
It all began in Adelaide, South Australia. However, I always knew I wanted to live in the U.S. After a few shorter stints in America and my grandmother’s passing on Easter Sunday, 2012 – with her final words to me being, “darling, you’ll make a tremendous wife and mother one day, but you must, must follow your dreams. You must move to America…”; shortly after, I aggressively pursued the immigration process and arrived in LA in 2013. I spent about eight years in LA and relocated to ATL throughout the pandemic. Over these past several years, I’ve pursued just about every creative endeavor you can think of; had always managed a fairly intense business career and have continued to work in the intersection of tech, entertainment, talent, brands and media. I run a boutique consulting firm and incubator for startups and entrepreneurs (OUT.LI.ER) – have my own record label in conjunction with The Orchard (OUT.LI.ER Records) and my own piano / artist brand, and alias in A N T I T H E S I S.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Between visa runs and immigration upheavals – not to mention all the associated costs; learning a new country, race(s) and cultures of varying people; adapting to the LA business community and combining pursuits that are both creative and entrepreneurial – for myself and others, it’s been far from a “smooth road”. Struggles have included working for horrible bosses, having to pay 12 months rent upfront on a couple of occasions as a result of my immigration status; losing months of income as a result of visa issues and visa runs into the likes of Canada, along with having to deal with shonky immigration attorneys, and much more. The stories could go on for days!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Visit: www.outlierco.co and www.outlierrecords.co. I’ve always worked in the cross-section of brand, marketing, strategic business development and partnerships, and always in the intersection of tech, entertainment, talent, brands and media. My record label allows me to be a writer of piano music, which I have re-produced into lo-fi beat records from producers all over the world. It’s allowed me to creative direct, direct and produce arthouse short films for some of the releases as well. I am constantly managing my time between business endeavors and creative pursuits, such as music and writing my book, ‘My American Dream’. I’m most proud of bringing some of my creative visions to life and I adore the writing process – despite how challenging it can be at times. What sets me apart? A lot of unique things that become more apparent once you sincerely get to know me.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Trust your gut. Trust your intuition. Never doubt your own capabilities.
