Today we’d like to introduce you to Kierra Mariah.
Hi Kierra, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Ever since I was a little girl, I fell in love with the idea of storytelling-whether it was modeling or acting. It was something that I always had an interest in. I started off by doing plays and taking drama classes in high school to now pursuing my MFA in Film & Television.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This journey has been tough if I have to admit! I feel like I have come a long way, but I still have a long road ahead of me. When I first started out in modeling, I was told I was too short consistently. No agency would sign me because of it. In this industry, you are literally taking a leap of faith because nothing is said in stone. Nothing is for sure. You’re literally working day and night to master your craft. Not only that but you’re faced with constant rejection every day. But it is all a part of the process.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a professional model and aspiring actress. My modeling agency is Kitokos Models, LLC which is located in Charolette, NC. I specialize in commercial, editorial, and print modeling. I have been told that something that sets me apart from others is my exotic look and how I use my body as art. My ethnicity is African and Native American- therefore, I have been told I have a unique hue.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I believe life is all about taking risks. If you’re not taking risks, then why are you living? If you don’t take risks, you’ll never know what could have been. I took a huge risk when I moved to Atlanta (with no family) and pursued a career in film. I was told, “that’s not realistic” and “make sure you have a fallback plan”. I have learned not to pay attention to negative thoughts during my journey. God didn’t put MY dream in your eyes, he placed it in MY eyes.
