Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamara Pressley.
Hi Tamara, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
After the passing of my husband in 2018, my two children and I moved to Marietta in June 2019 with the dream and a plan of becoming an Esthetician. I started school in October 2019. At the time, I was working two jobs overnight (7 days a week) and barely slept. School was a different experience since I was almost 39 years old and felt like I was starting all over again. I felt like the class mom because the ladies were so young.
COVID struck in 2020 and esthetics school for the first time ever in Georgia went to an online platform. It was a challenge learning online but the teacher I had at the time was patient and understanding. We went back in the classroom around June 2020 and began taking clients again. It was great to experience the hands on learning again and really lock in on my craft. During that time, I learned advanced facial skills and advanced waxing skills. I graduated November 2020 and immediately started my business.
I rented my suite in January 2021 and immediately began taking clients. My customized facial has become my most popular service. This service is customized to the client’s skin type for top-notch results. Everyone leaves with a GLOW and a SMILE!
In March, I took a leap of faith and left corporate America. I told myself if I was serious about my business, I needed to be all the way in it. I couldn’t function properly with the lack of sleep and my business couldn’t grow the way I wanted it to without being totally focused. I QUIT and it was the best decision I have ever made. There have been some financially scary moments and just like every business owner I know, I have thought about going back to work. Then I remember the cost to being the boss is sacrifice and I refuse to go back.
I absolutely love what I do and it has afforded me the best experiences and has introduced me to some of the most amazing people on Earth.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s definitely not been smooth! I have had to start and operate a business of touch during a pandemic. I feel like coronavirus has caused business to have its highs and lows. There have been times when people are ready to get facials and waxes (especially in the Summer) and then there were times they looked at me like a madwoman for even introducing the business to them.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Blinking Bella’s Beauty & Esthetics?
Blinking Bella’s is the place for the person that is hardworking and simply needs an hour to relax. My ideal client understands how essential self-care is and is ready to commit to themselves.
I am an Esthetician and facials are my specialty. I take pride in seeing my client’s skin clear and their bodies relax. What sets me apart from most is I pride myself on offering impeccable customer service. I worked in the hospitality industry for almost 20 years and I know exactly how to treat my ideal client. I am most proud of being awarded “Rookie Of the Year” 2021 at the Black Spa Awards hosted by Candace Holyfield. It’s amazing to be recognized for my determination and perseverance in my first year of business.
My brand is geared toward the urban professional that likes to self-care and to the person with skin issues that need some attention for a confidence booster! We love facials and intimate skin services and want to help you with all of your skincare needs. We offer packages and specials and we will be offering classes in the coming year.
What’s next?
My biggest plan for my business in the coming year is to offer classes and to have business retreats. I want to teach other estheticians how to become solo entrepreneurs and how to have clients on the books. During the retreats, I want to show people how to build their businesses from the beginning properly and how to capture great content for social media to promote their services.
