Life & Work with Mommy’s Girl

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mommy’s Girl.

Mommy’s Girl was founded by Raven A Russell in April of 2020. Raven lost her mother on January 28, 2011, when she was a freshman in high school. She always believed that people were there for her but knew no one truly understood the root of her pain. The same year she lost her mother, one of her close friends, Jessica Barillas, lost her mother as well. As the years went by, Raven started to see more and more girls losing their mothers. Fast forward to April of 2020. She was battling a depression that she thought she had defeated. In the midst of that battle, she was desperate for someone to talk to and realised it was honestly no one that could relate but those who have went through it. Raven knew this organization was needed for not only herself but all women around the world.

She knew four great women who had been in the same situation and presented the idea of an organization for girls and women who have lost their mothers and from there, Mommy’s Girl was born. Raven Russell, Laqueda Brann, Alexis Ealy, Jessica Barillas, and Briana Adams begin brainstorming and forming an organization that would give girls and women a forever safe-haven! Mommy’s Girls wants to instill confidence, direction, and unlimited mentorship to all women who have lost their mothers. Day to day they are planning ways they can make this organization better!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
While our journey has been eventful, it definitely has not been easy. Mommy’s Girl forces us to face the reality that our mothers are not here daily. Some days it’s easy and some days it seems unbearable, but we are all about turning pain into promises. Having a team of all girls, it’s easy to bump heads, but we have learned that nothing can get accomplished without great communication, an open mind, and 100% dedication!! We are prepared for whatever is thrown our way because we know we can handle it!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I would have to say my biggest accomplishment thus far is starting Mommy’s Girl! This organization is way bigger than me and the fact I was able to turn a small idea into a huge reality makes me so proud!” Laqueda Brann (president) is a basic of corrections graduate and an active mentor to many. She is most proud of her role as president of Mommy’s Girl. She is able to touch many people and change even more lives. Jessica barillas (vice president) is a health and human performance graduate from Albany state and she currently works at a corporate office in Austell, GA. Alexis Ealy (treasurer) is a graduate student majoring in criminal justice with a bachelor of science in psychology. She currently works for the largest credit union in the state of Georgia.

In my position, I work with multiple members to assist with all banking needs. I enjoy speaking with members and helping each individual with account functions while also developing great relationships with the members. The best part of her current position is she developed relationships and opportunities that allow her to grow. Briana Adams (social media chair) is a junior majoring in early childhood education at Albany state university. She enjoys being heavily active on campus.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
Mommy’s Girl has gotten so much support since we started. All of our families and friends deserve a ton of credit!! Between the five of us, it’s so many people we could list. We are appreciative of everyone that has gotten us up to this point in all of our careers. We love all of you guys so much!!
