Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Mukenya.
Chelsea, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I discovered my passion for photography when I got my camera at 15. I started out with landscape photography but as I grew older, I decided to incorporate my love for fashion in my photography. My inspiration mostly comes from fashion, nature and music. My goal is to showcase elegance, simplicity and authenticity.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
One of the most challenging moments for me was when my family moved to the U.S. in 2016 because I felt lost as an artist and a person as I adapted to my new environment. There was a lot to adjust to but I’m grateful for that time period because it allowed me to reinvent the ways I express myself in my work.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a model and photographer. I have always enjoyed and felt more comfortable behind the camera but my love for clothing and wanting to bring my ideas to life has pushed me to embrace being in front of the camera.
My growth both in front of the camera and behind it throughout the years is what I’m most proud of.
What were you like growing up?
In the words of my parents, I was jovial, resilient, personable and I adapted easily. I’ve always loved the arts, so when I was in elementary, I was always in the art room. My style has definitely evolved throughout the years but I’ve always been particular and known how I wanted to present myself.
