Today we’d like to introduce you to Jared Karr.
Jared, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Jules Tompkins [East Pole’s co-founder] and I have known one another since high school, and we’ve always shared a passion for good coffee. I spent time in Indonesia working directly with coffee farmers, and Jules and I reconnected following my return home to Atlanta.
In 2015, we decided to open East Pole. The name is from a video blog I hosted while in Indonesia, the “East Pole” of the world.
Has it been a smooth road?
Opening a brick-and-mortar space comes with its own set of challenges – permitting, construction, staying on top of our timeline. We’re excited to be open and serving the Atlanta community.

East Pole is an Atlanta-based coffee roaster specializing in single-origin coffees. We offer around six single-origin coffees at any time, plus one always-present coffee named “Traffic” – a nod to Atlanta’s most dependable experience. We work with importers to source sustainably grown green coffee, and we roast all beans on-site at our headquarters in Midtown. Visitors to the coffee bar can see our roastery from anywhere in the space, as it’s separated only by a glass wall.
