Meet KAOS of Movers And Pacers in Midtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to KAOS.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Movers And Pacers Run Club was founded in November 2013 in Atlanta, Georgia as a platform to encourage activity, fellowship, and a healthy lifestyle for young professionals and creatives.

We take pride in curating the running culture of Atlanta through our members being ATL’s movers and shakers, thus giving birth to the crew name and our moniker #WeRunATL

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all. One of the constant struggles is our environment; Heat, Humidity and Hills always make it challenging to run, especially for novices. When we started running the Beltline did not yet exist, bike lanes were virtually nonexistent, and sidewalks were so bad in many places that we would find ourselves running in the street in certain areas to avoid uneven paths.

Also, there was this stigma that running is punishment, so the challenge for us was to figure out how to make it fun.

From an activation standpoint the city of Atlanta hasn’t made it easy for community organizations like us to host events, but the lack of support forced us to think creatively in how we create experiences for our community.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Movers And Pacers story. Tell us more about the business.
Movers And Pacers was created to encourage the running habit. We host 4 weekly runs each created to provide a positive and inclusive experience, while providing an opportunity for people to meet, build, and create future opportunities.

We’re most proud of using our energy to help build a stronger community and we hope to inspire the next generation of Black runners.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
When we started in 2013 Instagram was just starting to take off, we’re lucky the platform was emerging at the same we were, as it’s created the most visibility for our organization. Even after 7 years, most people who find out about us do so via Instagram.
