Today we’d like to introduce you to King Thick.
Thanks for sharing your story with us King. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Prior to me creating T.H.I.C.K, I was a celebrity stylist here in Atlanta, GA known for styling R&B Diva Syleena Johnson. While always styling women I made sure as a man of size I stayed stylish as well, I received many messages always asking me about my style, confidence, and where I got my clothes. It inspired me to help other men of size but I didn’t know how, I reached out to one of my dear friends which he is one of the Men of T.H.I.C.K (Kills4Fashionreloaded) and I asked him to do a blog with me for big men to teach them how to dress and what to not wear, he definitely agreed and encouraged me to do it. I just couldnt think of anything clever to call it, I was sitting at work one day and I kept singing “Thick” by O.T. Genesis and I broke down thick to Tempting, Handsome, Intelligent, Charming, Kings and my at work wife at the time loved it. I presented it to my boy when I got home and from there it was a hit!
Has it been a smooth road?
I will tell you it most definitely wasn’t a smooth road because I first of all I put together a group of men that didn’t know each other so we had to build friendships and trust, the audience that we were in front of or should I say cater to didn’t really receive us well, and we had to work hard with visuals to bring in people attention and to get understanding.
Please tell us about T.H.I.C.K Movement.
T.H.I.C.K stands for Tempting, Handsome, Intelligent, Charming, Kings we are a body positive movement, we are here to uplift, inspire, encourage, and empower all men of size to love the skin therein. We also speak to mental health issues when it comes to weight and not loving your body. We also model and create visuals of what plus-size men are capable of doing. I have amazing Brand Ambassadors @lastkingstanding_08, @Ovobent, and @kills4fashionreloaded they have been a big inspiration to the community as well.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I absolutely think that Atlanta was the perfect place to start this movement. Atlanta has several outlets for plus size men.
