Today we’d like to introduce you to Lashay Perkins.
Lashay, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always been a chubby girl. I have always been a big reader of urban novels and wanted to write about characters more like myself. I signed to Curvy Girl Publication in September 2017 as a contract Author. My first book was released in February 2018; Everything I do is to help other curvy women around the world to have self-love, confidence, and self-esteem. We are here to stay whether people like it are not; Our curves don’t hurt anybody if anything it motivates us to be a better person than the ones that are degrading us. As a plus size woman, I have stayed strong through it all and have never let anything in this world break me down; Although, I am no longer signed under CGP, you guys can find me signed under Dream Writer’s Publication Group where Jay Jaythawriter is the owner and publisher.
If you guys have noticed all of my models have been plus size women of average size. I would like to shout out one of my very first plus-size models which is a beautiful full figure lady by the name of JayQue and you guys can find her on facebook @JayQue. I have also created a plus size clothing line called Maylee’s Kurvy Wear. It is a line for full figure goddesses like myself.
I have also used editing and promotional services like, “Renee’s editing and promotion services.” She can be found @Renee Perkins. I want you guys to be on the lookout for my upcoming release called, ” Blessed with Beautiful Curves.” Be on the lookout for this debut in January. I’m also planning on starting my very own publishing company called,” Unique Creation Publications.” with a co-owner Author who is very popular by the name of Miss Dee.
Has it been a smooth road?
This has been a long but challenging journey. I was first signed to Curvy Girl Publication and was dropped for being over creative. The very first novel that I wrote I was very unfortunate; Therefore, that novel was drafted daily and completed on my personal android cell phone. Many urban publishers thought that curvy urban novels weren’t to their tasting which made it difficult to get signed as an urban author. Never giving up hope I was then guided in the right direction. I landed with Dream Writer’s which Jay gives me total control over what I debut and when. That is something very hard to find in this industry. Many publishers feel like if you are apart of their label they feel they should have total control over your novels. From what you write to how your book cover looks. A plus size woman on an urban book cover is not well accepted in this industry.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Uniquely Lashay – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I write urban novels for thick, pudgy, curvy and full figured plus size women. The company I am currently signed under is Dream Writer’s and Jay the Publisher is very welcoming of plus size models and characters. What set us apart from others would be acceptance of full figure women and love for BBW’s. Young girls in this world need to know that it is okay to be full figured and still look sexy.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love Atlanta because it is a growing city and also a city of opportunities. Atlanta also has a beautiful view at night and it is a city where dreams come true.
