Meet Melissa Adams of G&A Weddings in Buckhead

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Adams.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
After taking an event design class during my time at The Art Institute of Atlanta, I found a true passion for executing and designing events. After graduation, I found the corporate world was not for me and I turned to my love of planning. I started my business by calling local vendors to assist me in putting on a styled shoot, which is like a fake wedding for brides to get inspiration from.

I was overwhelmed by the kindness and willingness from professionals in the industry to help. I’ve never been afraid to ask for things, the worst anyone can tell you is “no”. My business is a labor of love, I make sure to invest in myself and be my own biggest cheerleader. I attend bridal expositions to meet new clients while making sure to engage with people on social media. My business is now three years old, I’ve done a little over 20 weddings. I’m truly proud of what I have been able to achieve in this short time. I love being able to give my couples the wedding they have been dreaming about and being a special part of someone’s marriage. There really is no secret to success, anything can be achieved with hard work.

Has it been a smooth road?
Starting a business is serious work. In the very beginning, no one knew me. Like any company, consumers want someone they can trust, where they can see previous work and reviews. That’s why I started doing styled shoots, so I had actual design work couples could see. It was a game changer in booking more clients.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a full-service wedding planner and designer. I specialize in luxury weddings. I combining trends and timeless designs together so my couples can look at their wedding day twenty years from now and be happy with their pictures. No one wants to look back at their wedding and say “what was I thinking and why was my planner on board with this.” My proudest moment was getting published in a bridal magazine, I get to reach a whole new audience that way. My connection with my couples is something I pride myself on. I’m here to be their guide through the process. Let’s face it, weddings are stressful, but with the right team, they don’t have to be. It’s a joyous time. I want my couples to have fun and enjoy their wedding.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Atlanta is an epicenter for the wedding industry. The amount of talent in the city is endless. Atlanta is big enough where there is enough work to go around to everyone. There’s so many beautiful wedding venues to choose from. The possibility of starting a wedding business in the city is definitely a great place to start.
