Meet Nancy Spivey of Ready Set Resumes in Brookhaven

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nancy Spivey.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I worked in the staffing industry years ago. While working in the industry, I worked with both candidates and hiring managers. I always made it my mission to truly understand the needs of both clients and candidates, which led to great success in the business. With my success in the business and seeing so many people in the staffing industry struggle, I decided to create a workshop to teach others how to do a better job at staffing.

Once I started delivering staffing workshops, I realized something that I had never know about myself. I found out that I absolutely loved to provide training and help people grow. In an effort to better serve, I obtained training in presentation skills, facilitation and eventually professional coaching so that I could provide training, coaching and facilitation to professionals, job seekers and businesses.

Then the economy took a turn; and I was laid off from my job. When I was laid off, I decided to take my training and coaching business full time. I’ve been training and coaching ever since.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I was laid off from my job, it didn’t seem like a good thing to me. I was making six figures and accustomed to the income. Plus, being laid off, even if it’s due to economic conditions, doesn’t feel good and leaves you in a place of having to figure out what’s next. My “what’s next” was to continue training and coaching and grow my business.

Looking back, I would say that being laid off was one of the best things that ever happened to me because it gave me the space and the opportunity to do something that I absolutely love and feel called to do.

Ready Set Resumes – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Ready Set Resumes provides resume writing, cover letter creation, career coaching and interview coaching. We specialize in creating resumes that get results. Getting an interview in today’s job market is challenging and without the right resume, it can be close to impossible. We create targeted and keyword rich resumes that make it past the application tracking software so that clients can actually get to the interview stage, even if one is making a career change.

What sets the company apart is experience and service. I have over 15 years of experience serving both job seekers and employers with a strong knowledge of what are employers are seeking. I have served thousands of people in obtaining jobs and worked with organizations such as the Department of Labor and Work Source Georgia. In addition, I remain active in the industry staying up to date on employer requirements, current trends for resumes, interviews and landing jobs. I work with each client personally to design a resume specifically tailored to their target job titles.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
There are so many moments that come to mind, I’m not sure I could pick just one. Each time I see a light bulb go off for a client, knowing they have had an “ah hah’ moment and broken through a barrier, I am elated. When I receive a phone calling saying, “I got the job!”, it brings me great joy. When I learn that someone I placed in an entry level job has gone to be a big wig at Google, my heart sings. This work is a journey and an adventure. It is a privilege to work with my clients and be a part of their journey, whether it’s through resume writing, Interview coaching and/or career coaching.
