Meet Sigourney Ray

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sigourney Ray.

Hi Sigourney, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I began Sig + Co. during the early stages of the pandemic as a way to cope with the new challenges I was facing in life. Adjusting to changes in all aspects of my life (all happening simultaneously) became overwhelming. I knew I needed to find a coping mechanism to help me get acclimated to this new way of living.

My business pays homage to my late mother, Stacey Bess-Ray, who I lost in 2013. I reflected on her favorite insect (the butterfly) and I started looking at my new challenges as phases, or cycles but with a unique perspective. My mom faced many challenges prior to her untimely death however, she was the epitome of a woman that conquered each cycle in her life with grace.

We all go through our own cycles. During those cycles, we deal with a variety of lows and highs but each moment is vital to our growth. Lighting each Sig + Co. candle signifies the start of a new phase or season in your life. My hope is that with each use, you get closer to your own metamorphosis.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not! To list a few, I’ve been through job changes, relationship changes, mental and physical health changes, and I lost my brother all since beginning my business. I’ve encountered many obstacles along this journey however, my faith in God is strong and I know that no matter how rocky the road may be, I will make it through. I also have an amazing support system that I can lean on when I need to and I will forever be thankful for them.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a proud Special Education Teacher. I currently teach at a Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility and I’m thankful to be able to make a difference within this population. Seeing the growth in my students in both the areas of education and mental health gives me great joy.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Be sure to follow my social media pages for updates about Sig + Co. I am also beginning candle-making classes for those who may be interested in the Sig + Co. Experience.
