Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Deljou of Deljou Art Group.
Anthony, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
After coming to the US in the late 1970s, my father and two uncles started a small serigraphy company not far from where we are today in Midtown, Atlanta. At that time the company, Graphique Du jour, employed a half dozen people, most of whom were family members, and created serigraphy prints that sold for $20-$30. The company’s first overseas sale was made in 1986 to a client in Norway, and not long after that, we were beginning to serve clients all the way in Canada, Germany and even South Africa! By 1990, the company had almost quadrupled in size and was moved to a new location where we began to offer Fine Art. We officially found our name, Deljou Art Group, in 1995 and haven’t looked back since. Today, Deljou Art Group, now the country’s largest Art Publishing company, and its sister divisions, represents hundreds of artists, has over 100 employees and services multiple sectors within the art industry.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t believe there is such a thing as a “smooth road” when you run a small company, especially a family business in the art industry. The art industry has seen its challenges throughout the last 15-20 years as many of our competitors have gone out of business. The art publishing business, much like the record industry, has seen a complete transformation of the business model since the interest. We have had to adapt and change to continue our growth and our relevance. I think we’ve done a good job, as we are still very relevant!
Please tell us about Deljou Art Group.
Deljou Art Group is an art publishing firm that exclusively represents an artist and distributes their work (both original and reproduction) through our network of galleries and wholesale clients all over the world. One thing that stands out is our work within the booming film industry in Atlanta. We have some clients whose job it is to fill and decorate sets, and with all of the art we have to choose from, it becomes a one-stop-shop for them. DAC Art Consulting, a sister company, is one of the largest art consulting firms in the country, primarily servicing the hospitality, healthcare and corporate sectors. Monarch Digital Studio is our digital printing company servicing outside artists with a source of printing solutions unparalleled in the art industry. And our most recent endeavor, Scope Fine Art, is our first test pilot retail gallery where the public can, for the first time, buy the artwork that Deljou Art Group publishes. The one thing that sets us apart from everyone else, aside from the sheer diversity in the body of work we represent and the amount of work that can be seen in our 95,000 sq. ft. facility (45,000 sq ft Gallery space), is the full turn-key service that we offer. Everything is done in-house. The art is created here, its framed here, it’s digitized here, it’s printed here, it ships from here, you name it and it’s done right here. Nothing is outsourced, we control all aspects of a project timeline and quality control.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least about our city?
I’ve lived in Atlanta since I was eight, so it’s pretty much home for me. I’ve seen it grow up and become the diverse melting pot that I’m proud to call home. Is there any other answer other than “traffic” when it comes to what I don’t like about the city?
