Meet Quendella Huggins of IamQuendella in Columbus

Today we’d like to introduce you to Quendella Huggins.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Quendella. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Music is my first love before I can remember, I have always been connected to it. The first instrument I asked for was the piano, although I never got piano lessons, I self-taught myself enough to write my own songs, and now I play the guitar. When I was 13, I was diagnosed with stage II nasopharyngeal cancer, I spent the majority of my freshman year of high school either at home or at the hospital getting Chemotherapy and Radiation. It was until my diagnosis, I started learning a lot about myself, and who I wanted to be. I would watch a lot of ANTM, Disney was a favorite channel, and it always had encouraging shows/movies. I have always been spiritual, but during my diagnosis is when I really started building an even more personal relationship with God. I understand that the cancer was bigger than just me, it was preparing me, and my family for greater. I was able to realize my gifts, which was modeling, acting, singing, dance, writing, and songwriting. After I was diagnosed cancer free, I immediately started my own MySpace, researched acting school’s, and eventually convinced my parents to pay for acting workshops.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Definitely not a smooth ride. I feel that most of the greats come from a rocky path. I will give a lot of credit to my parents, they were able to create a safe/stable foundation for me and kept me in church. Just from going to church I was able to form my own relationship with God and seeing things the way he did. I learned this all in high school, which Is why I’m a little ahead of my generation, opposed to after graduation. My cancer to me was more like a wake-up call, I knew there was a reason for me having it, too share it with others. I also ended up marrying young, had a son, and began experience marital violence within my household. It took me two years after my son was born to leave our home and move back in with my parents. It wasn’t until I left that situation that I stumbled back into music, acting, and writing.

IamQuendella – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Iamquendella is the name I use for business. I do still audition for acting roles in Atlanta, I am available for modeling bookings, and finishing up my first collaborative album featuring Monbelo “World Domination.” I am known mostly for being a model and I an up and coming actress. I am most proud of my versatility and my story. Nothing was just handed to me, I worked for everything I have, and for what’s to come. I set me apart from others, I follow steps that are made just for me.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I would describe success as your talent being noticed. I am currently a small name brand because I am just getting myself out there, I am still promoting myself, and getting my story shared. Once my story starts affecting and motivating others is when it becomes a success.
