Meet Asaada Corley in East Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Asaada Corley.

Asaada, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My mom surprised me with tickets to my first Broadway play, Beauty and The Beast. when I was seven years old. I was blown away by the spectacle of the stage- the costumes, the sets, and especially the performers. That was it. That was the point when I knew I needed to perform on a stage one day.

I was extremely active in Theater throughout high school. I didn’t discover film until college. I enrolled in an Acting for the Camera course at Kennesaw State University. It was my first time acting behind a camera. It was very different from the stage training I had done. However, I embraced the challenge and very quickly fell in love with the process of on-camera acting.

Yoga found me while I was in college as well. I had tried some yoga YouTube videos in the past and decided yoga wasn’t for me. It was too slow and gentle, and I was craving something more competitive and vigorous. I decided to give yoga one more chance when I learned that the student recreation center was offering classes. At the time, I was dealing with some personal drama and the yoga class turned out to be the perfect anecdote. For that one hour, I was able to be fully mentally present. It was the first moment in a long time that I didn’t feel stressed or anxious about something. It was one of the most life- changing experiences of my life.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I wouldn’t say it’s been a smooth road. I had the same feeling that many college graduates experience. That whole, “what now?” feeling. I had a plan for my life, but it was now up to me to put in the work to pursue that plan. So, the first thing I did was get certified to teach yoga. It was a mentally, spiritually and physically rigorous six-month training process. I received an offer to teach yoga full time, shortly after I received my teaching certificate. I was beyond grateful that I now had a way to financially support myself in the most fulfilling role I could imagine for myself. Having this job also allowed me the chance to focus on taking acting classes and pursue my film career.

So now, the next struggle is figuring out how best to share my art with the world. It’s a scary, vulnerable thing, but I’m excited for what the future holds.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Asaada Corley – what should we know?
I currently teach yoga at Sacred Thread Yoga.

A couple of months back, I was fortunate to act in two short films with some incredible people. I am currently working on my own script for a film that will be produced soon.

What sets me apart from everyone else is my inability to half do anything. If I set out to do something, I have to see it through, and I have to complete it to the best of my ability. When I look back on my life 50 years from now, I want to be satisfied that I did everything in my power to leave a lasting, positive impression on the world. An impression that inspires others to live up to their potential. This is my ultimate goal. And everything I do is motivated by this goal.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I’ve had a lot of wonderful people who have helped me along my journey. But my main mentor and supporter is my mother. Because of her, I have never doubted for a second that I can achieve anything I set my mind to. It is because of her that I have the courage to take risks. I can be confident that, no matter how crazy my ideas may seem, she will back me 100 percent.
