Check out B Rob’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to B Rob.

B, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I always had a love for visual arts. I began playing with cameras at a young age. In high school, I was in the marching band. Before and after practices or games, I would take pictures of some of my friends in the band, or make videos of us having a good time to post on Facebook. I didn’t think much about it at first, but I did notice everyone saying how much they liked their pictures, and how they really enjoyed watching the videos I made. I took a break for a few years to continue looking for anything else that spoke to me the way visual arts did. I began taking my camera work seriously in college at the end of 2014, and I was able to purchase my own camera in January of 2016. I began taking photographs of my friends, and then I began branching out and meeting a lot more local and national creatives through social media as my work continued to grow.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do? Why? And what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I love the art of film making. I mostly work in video. I’m a Director. I love to shoot music videos, short films, documentaries, interviews; everything. My favorite thing to create most are music videos and short films. I really enjoy creating music videos, because it allows me to show how creative and innovative I can be as an indie filmmaker. I have a very cinematic filming style, and I like for my music videos to have elements of acting and realism to help engage the viewers. I plan everything out before shooting most times, from locations to wardrobe, lights, and extra people on set, and this makes the process a lot smoother. Many people who have worked with me or have seen my work often refer to my videos as “mini movies,” which makes me feel really great about the growth and direction of my work. I also enjoy short films because you can really do just about anything, and the collaborative efforts that come into play when putting on larger scale productions also make the process worthwhile for me. I put a lot of time and energy into my video work, because this was the one thing that made me happy, let me express myself, make a living, and bring other people’s visions to life. I want my work to continue to inspire people for generations to come to be the best they can be, and I truly want to leave an impact on people through the work I present.

Have things improved for artists? What should cities do to empower artists?
I think it has a bit difficult for artists these days. There is a slight oversaturation in creative arts, so it can be hard to separate a lot of what’s going on at times. I think it’s a good and bad thing. Good because it will push creative minds to a new and higher level to be more innovative, but bad because I feel a lot of people will get discouraged through the journey. Cities could make more hubs for creative people to link up and have people bring more art to cities to make things more attractive to their creations.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
My work is out on my website, YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook. I really love when people share my recent videos, or make a post about what they see me trying to do creatively through my videos. Sharing a link to a video, commenting on posting about it on social media, or telling their friends, family, and network about it.
