Today we’d like to introduce you to Victorya Wagner.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Victorya. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Started managing the Clermont Twins almost eight years ago and then moved forward with opening my own modeling agency representing models of color right after ankle surgery. The doors opened December 2015 and we hit the ground running. It was important to me to make sure my presence, professionalism, and quirkiness were noted and seen by all. March 2016, we signed our first few models and by the following July, we had meetings set up for Conde Nast and Designers. It was all a dream, I used to read Vogue & Nylon magazines, now we’re published in both and more.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s been a bumpy road, but now that it’s been three years, it’s a lot smoother because of how I look at the obstacles. Especially as a black queer woman in charge. However, life is what I make it and some of my struggles we’re getting everyone on the same page about signing a release form or model attitudes, lol. I was 21 once so I understand, but now as an entrepreneur, I acknowledge that an agent is doing their job and is here for the betterment of self, things I wouldn’t have understood at a young age. To the young women starting their journey, keep going. Never stop, and people say keep going for a reason. Continue to master your craft and work hard consistently. Hard work truly pays off.
We’d love to hear more about Kevlar Rose Agency.
I’m not only the founder of but I’m also, I’m a model agent, casting director and I do production. I specialize in developing models all around to be at their highest potential when working with LA & NYC clients. I’m known for booking models for their first editorial publication or e-commerce gigs. I’m so proud that as a kid, I use to watch America’s Next Top Model and enjoyed how Tyra Banks developed her models along with staying diverse. Ten years later, I booked billboards and Target ads with one of our KR Models and an ANTM model, Eva Marcille. I will forever be grateful about that. I love the fact that models and creatives see what we’re doing for the Atlanta community and cant truly feel our KR Culture outside of Atlanta. They know that we want to stay true to ourselves and that we want to be our absolute best. We’re not generic, we don’t follow others, and we’ve paved our own lane. Everyone sees it, and I’m happy the ones that do see us give us our props. It’s hard starting off and not having tons of followers or support. It’s hard work over here and it’s paying off soon, Kevlar Rose is exactly that. Nourishing and blooming in this interesting world.
We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
Women are already strong naturally, the barrier is someone else trying to put them in a box that dims their light.
You will always have a voice, no matter what. Luckily for us, everyone is starting to realize the importance of female leadership.
