Art & Life with Danny Sanzone

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danny Sanzone.

Danny, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I’ve discovered my purpose in life, and that purpose is to create visual art. It was through my interest in science and spirituality that I discovered the magic of creating artwork, and how powerful it can be, I grew up around a lot of technology since my father is an electrical and optical engineer. This contributed to the heavily scientific subject matter of my artwork today. The brightly colored laser systems I would see my father working on made my mind race with ideas of magic, science, and nature combining to form a beautifully colorful and bright future for humanity. My father even worked with the world-famous artist Nam June Paik and helped to build him a 3D laser display system for one of his exhibitions in New York City, which I got to experience first hand. Being around this at such a young age impacted me greatly and led to my desire to seek out art that transcended the bounds of “normal” physical reality. In high school, I discovered the artist Alex Grey, who has inspired me more than any other artist I’ve found since. His work revealed to me for the first time the infinite realm of spirit, manifested through paint on a surface. Before seeing this work, I hadn’t heard of the term “visionary art” or even knew it existed. Discovering this artistic style led me to want to learn how to create artwork of my own in order to express the ideas and visions that I had been dreaming about since I was a child. I graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in 2014 with a BFA in printmaking and sculpture, and began working toward becoming an independent artist. After many jobs including framer, art restorer, laser operator, and salesman, I eventually left my sales job in January of 2017 and began working on art and design full time. I now create and sell a multitude of products featuring my artwork including clothing, blankets, tapestries, canvas reproductions, hand fans, and towels to name a few. I travel to music festivals where I perform live art, paint murals, and set up my shop “Infinite Evolution.” You can typically find me painting live at my booth during a festival, where I love to meet new people and talk about subjects such as art, science, spiriat, culture, and nature. I’ve found that large music festivals (mostly electronic) are pinnacles of art and creativity. I’ve experienced more artists and creators coming together at music festivals than any other kind of event. I’m certain that the electronic music festival community along with the many talented artists, musicians, performers, and open-minded individuals that attend these festivals, have begun a large movement that is revitalizing people’s interest in art on a large scale. I’ve experienced a massive amount of support for my art through this community and absolutely love being a part of it.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I make art in many different mediums, but most of my work consists of acrylic paintings, digital art, and light sculpture. I love to create work about science, technology, spirituality, and nature. These themes interest me greatly and seem to become more magical with the more I discover about them. I find that inspiration comes from many sources including vivid dreams and visionary experiences, as well as creating live art during music festivals and events. My work attempts to make a reality out of some of the ideas, realms, and theories I’ve discovered within science, and within my self. I hope that others see the positive message of self-love and understanding for the universe that is central in my work. I also hope that my work inspires other people to learn to create artwork of their own someday.

How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
I define success as achieving a high level of self-love that spreads to and inspires those around you. Success is also discovering your purpose in life and living to fulfill that purpose. The number one quality that is essential to success as an artist is the ability to work hard to achieve your vision. It is through persistence and dedication to the craft that a successful artist is born.
