Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Huang.
Tiffany, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a Florida native who moved from Tallahassee to Atlanta in 2009 for college. After four years at Emory, I finally started exploring the city that I did not get to see much of while enclosed in the college bubble. What started as trying a new restaurant every week after church on Sundays to becoming a part of the Yelp community, food became more than just eating to survive. I recently expanded to Instagram as @tiffhuangry nearly ten months ago as just another platform to share my love of food and to show off my food pictures, but quickly realized it could be much more – access to a network of foodies and influencers from Atlanta and around the world. I have met so many amazing people both online and person – and I’m excited to see what tomorrow brings! I am so thankful for a select few food influencers who have introduced me to the community – particularly Erica Gonzalez (@YelpOTP) and Sarah Puett (@atlantabestbites). They have been instrumental to my growing presence as a foodie in Atlanta!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I am a huge proponent of women supporting other women because we just still don’t have it easy in this day and age. I think it is important for young women to be their true authentic selves, whether in person or on social media platforms. There are so many amazing people out there on social media, but there are also plenty who bully and prey on those who believe they need more followers, more likes and more views. Trust in your brand and the value you bring on your own worth! While “influencing” is all about the appreciation you bring to your followers, ultimately let the pictures speak for themselves and show who you are, not someone you are not.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Food consumes so much of my life (pun most definitely intended)! I wanted to share my love for food with my friends and it has been amazing showing it to so many more people than I ever expected. From eating different cuisines at local restaurants to traveling around the country and the world for a foreign dining experience to staying at home and trying a new recipe, there is always something going on! There are many Atlanta food influencers who are great at what they do in the local sense – however, I may spread myself a little thinner by exploring more outside of Atlanta. I have been really enjoying trying new places with a fresh mindset versus becoming a regular at a great restaurant. On my Instagram account, you can find me trying new restaurants or mom & pop shops, figuring out a Pinterest recipe or traveling someplace exciting and far from home.
Which women inspire you the most?
There are some amazing women in history who have made a monumental impact politically and socially. However, the two women who have made the biggest impact are the two closest to me in my life, my mom and my sister. They are both strong Asian women and ambitious in their goals and their attitudes. They are strong-willed and don’t take no for an answer. My sister is best at honest and objective feedback – a.k.a. tough love. She has taught me from the beginning how to get pickier and more critical with my pictures – my original photo editing mentor! My mom is my biggest fan (even though she doesn’t even have an Instagram account…) but has always pushed me to be the woman I am today. And as every mom does, she has reminded me over and over again to cook more at home rather than eating out all the time. I’ll have to say that’s a good combination of advice for the success of @tiffhuangry!
