Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Lopez.
Daniel, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I started out with a love of sports (at the age of seven). During that time I stumbled upon a group of dancers attending a summer camp by the Latin American Association. This started a passion that would forever change my life. Dance. I first began as a Hip Hop freestyle dancer. Then, would later perform and choreograph for local events within the organization. Since sports was also such a big part of life, I gave Dance a break. A 7-year break. At the age of fourteen, I finally made the decision to fully and wholeheartedly pursue Dance. I would look up dance videos on YouTube and practice in my house every single day. Morning till late at night. As I pursued more formal training, it led me to Gotta Dance Atlanta and Sean Freeman’s Dream Big Dance (Pre Professional) Company. He saw a raw talent that I didn’t see in my self. But I knew I had the passion and the drive for it. I now train in Hip Hop choreography, Contemporary Dance, Modern Dance, Jazz, Ballet and other various style. After graduating from the company, I immediately started my professional career performing with various Ballet-Contemporary and Modern dance companies. Later on, there was a major audition for a lead role led by Director Billie Woodruff and Choreographer Jamaica Craft for the movie “Honey: Rise Up” during the summer of 2017. I landed the role of “Bryce” where I acted and danced alongside Teyana Taylor. One thing led to another and then received another role as a core dancer and student “Freshman” role in the YouTube Red series “Step Up: High Water” with Producers Adam Shankman and Channing Tatum. As I navigate in my career throughout ATLANTA, I’ve been featured in music videos and multiple shows as a dancer including Star, Empire, and Dynasty and also continue to perform live on stages such as the Fox Theatre, the Cobb Energy Center, etc. I have been so happy to discover what lies now and ahead for my career. But, I love that Dance is such a beautiful art form of the body and a wonderful way to communicate universally and tell stories to help inspire ourselves and others for a better life ahead.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do? Why? And what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I am a professional dancer and actor. At the moment I work with choreographers such as Jamaica Craft, Brandon Jones, Marc Marvelous, Josh Smith for various Television shows and films. I also enjoy making my own dance visuals and choreographing in different Pre Professional companies. My inspiration is to communicate universally and tell stories with the body to help inspire others for a better, more wholesome and connected life. In the near future, of course, I will on appear on a TV screen near you. But expect to see me dancing on tour with an artist very soon.
Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
The biggest challenge is to me is adapting to social media and understanding how broad of an audience one can really reach. For people that do know it then it’s more so understanding the actual communication and storytelling of art rather than just expressing. Because there is so much of everything and it can all be seen I’m really finding out my way and my navigation through I all to honestly express my self through it and tell good stories.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I post a lot of my work on my Instagram. For those who use it my Instagram is @rmbrdaniel
