Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Robbins and Erin Pridgen.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
At fifth and mae — we really wanted to create a safe place for both clients and stylist. Our mission goes way beyond pretty hair. Our biggest goal is maintaining grace within all situations with our team, our clients, and with daily business interactions.
We believe our purpose is much bigger than our personal goals and doing pretty hair in the process is a bonus. We recently opened our second location in Gwinnett and can’t see what’s next for Fifth&Mae!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It most definitely hasn’t always been the easiest road traveled — this is our first business and your first anything comes with speed bumps but we have learned so much these past three and a half years and have grown because of the things we have faced. From day to day business, if it wasn’t the printer breaking or the card machine acting up we were so busy we were running out of hot water — we now have learned what printers to not buy and what local plumber to call. It took us over a year to finally find the perfect second home for our brand and then almost another year just to get it built out — now that it is up and running it’s all worth it. These first three years of late nights, exhausting days, are just the beginning of fifth and mae.
Fifth and Mae Salons – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a full concept Aveda hair salon. We specialize in color and cut corrections. We also provide bridal + hair extensions. If there was something we are known for in the area- it’s blondes. We have heard from new clients that we are called the blonde salon, although we do love all hair color! We would say the talent in our building and the teamwork sets us apart from most anywhere around.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Running out of room in our salon within the first year of being open! We started with practically no money – and far from home and our existing clientele…So the day we ran out of chairs and shampoo bowls for guest and stylist that wanted to work was a good problem to have!
