Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Nelson.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Mark. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
After 38 years in the hospitality industry, as a chef, General Manager, and restaurant owner, I was looking for a new opportunity in Atlanta after working full time as a restaurant consultant. I had been traveling and working on the road for several years, and was ready to come home and stay in town full time. I was looking for a privately owned, smaller restaurant company, where my skill set could make a positive impact. When I met Sean Yeremyan, I knew that he was the person that I wanted to work for. Sean had a vision for his company that lined up with my professional goals. I started as the General Manager at HobNob, and have expanded my role into new restaurant development. I am very excited about our new project in the city of Brookhaven. We are building out a 6000 square foot space where the second HobNob will open sometime in May of this year.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The restaurant business is always challenging, but I very much appreciate this position, and believe that every problem has a solution.
HobNob Neighborhood Tavern – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a local neighborhood restaurant. We have a really great menu that is “tavern fare with a southern flair”. We do a lot of comfort food items that have a broad appeal. We also pride ourselves in having an awesome selection of craft cocktails, bourbons, and interesting local and regional craft beers. We currently have 114 different bourbons, whiskeys, and ryes. Our beer list has something for everyone with 64 to choose from.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
When you are good in this business, it should feel like you are throwing a party every night, and all of your friends come. I define success as creating an environment that allows people to relax, enjoy themselves, have a great meal, and hang out with friends. If you create this kind of feeling, the success of the business takes care of itself.
