Meet Tina and Danaj’a Body

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tina Body, Danaj’a Body.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I, Tina Body have been in the beauty industry for close to 30 years starting as a cosmetology assistant. I loved doing hair, but I wanted to offer more. Over the years I began to migrate more toward esthetics and eventually became an Esthetician. After finding out I had the breast cancer gene and undergoing surgery, I became adamant about using nontoxic, natural but effective ingredients. I would teach my daughters how to take care of their hair and skin. This is where Danaj’a comes in. She really took to natural hair and skincare. Over the years she has been right by my side learning all she could until the day came when she was ready to become my partner in Beauty by Body. We have both suffered from depression and anxiety making our partnership that more interesting as we have to not only hold each other up but encourage one another to push past fear.

Please tell us about your art.
Beauty by Body is a brand that believes beauty is customizable. There is no one example of what beauty looks like. We offer all natural and medical grade skin and hair care while bringing attention to the importance of mental health. True total beauty includes what exudes from within. Therefore, we hope the take away for people is self-love and confidence.

Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
Don’t be discouraged! It’s ok. Just keep working. You may not be able to do things on the level you desire at this moment, but it will happen if you just keep putting in the work. Think outside the box, try to research and utilize tools/methods that are free or minimal in cost. Don’t be embarrassed to discuss your struggle with others who have persevered and ask for advice.
