Life and Work with Remington Semple

Today we’d like to introduce you to Remington Semple.

Remington, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am 18 years old and my passions are working with children who have disabilities and modeling. My dream career has been modeling for as long as I can remember and I am so blessed to have been given the opportunity to make this dream come true. At age 16, I signed to a professional modeling agency in Atlanta, however it hasn’t always been easy and it is not all that I expected. It is still my goal to become a successful model and I am going to continue to work towards this goal and trust in God’s timing and plan. My other passion is working with children that have disabilities, this has been a major blessing and light in my life. My youngest sister has Down Syndrome and she is what sparked this passion, leading me to become heavily involved in the Special Education system in my school and church. I would love to be able to tie these passions together and use modeling, not just as my career, but also as a platform to be able to further work with and help these incredible children.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, it has not been such a smooth road, in middle school, I was diagnosed with scoliosis. This is the rotation and curvature of the spine and the only way to correct it is through major spine surgery. The curve of your spine is measured by degrees and mine started out pretty low but over the course of around five years, it slowly got worse. This started to affect my appearance because I started to look uneven; my rib cage stuck out significantly more on one side and my hips and shoulders were uneven and not level. This made modeling quite difficult because it affected my measurements, how clothes would fit, and it took a physical toll on me because my back was in constant pain. I became discouraged and was losing confidence and hope in being able to live out my dream of modeling. Eventually, the degree of my curve wasn’t showing signs of stopping so in the summer of 2018, we decided to have the operation. In December of 2018, the very middle of my senior year in high school, I had a spinal fusion, this is where they fuse vertebrae using metal rods, screws, and bone grafts to straighten out and relocate sections of the spine. This surgery was the toughest thing I had ever had to go through, but I am very happy and thankful I was able to have it, I am still recovering but beginning to get back into modeling. I know there is a bright future and I am trusting in God’s plan and timing for my life and career, which is the best advice I could give anyone.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Click Models of Atlanta – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
With modeling, I am mostly just shooting with local photographers to build up my portfolio and name in the Atlanta market. I have done runway shows for World of Prom with two designers. I have many goals and aspirations with modeling and I know with hard work, dedication, trust and faith in Jesus, and confidence I will be able to accomplish my dreams. A few of my top goals are signing to another major agency in a market such as LA, New York, and/or Miami, shooting for Vogue, walking in New York Fashion Week, shooting with Sports Illustrated Swim Suit, shooting for a major company such as Adidas or Calvin Klein, and traveling to a foreign country for modeling business.

Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well positioned for?
Absolutely, I feel that any opportunity can be particularly well positioned for women because I believe anybody, especially women, can do and be anything they want if they put their mind to it. If you have a dream or goal then the only person that can really stop you is yourself. So, any opportunity out there a woman could be positioned for if she really wants to be.
