Meet Dequavious Graves of BigQuay Beatz in Decatur

Today we’d like to introduce you to Big Quay Beatz.

Big Quay Beatz, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I didn’t really have an understanding of what I wanted to do in life but I always had creativity. My father used to have this huge collection of tapes, vinyls, and cds that he would always play so music just really became a thing. I never played any instruments in the band, and I didn’t even know how to read music, but I loved melodies. Later in life, I was introduced to my family member Nosakhere formally known to the world as Mr.2-17. He showed me my first up close and personal producer experience. He used to take me to shows and studio sessions which opened a new horizon for me. In our late teens, we started a group formally known as The Ratchet$ that also includes my friend BeyondRich YT. We went to perform at several venues including Birthday Bash and had a blast but all good things must come to an end sometimes.

We all went our separate ways and after that, I had to either continue pursuing as an artist or figure out what to do with the rest of my days. This began the start of my producing career and the created the person I am today. I started producing on Fl Studio and got some of my first placements from Kaydee laflaire, and Eilo Sensei. I like teaming up with my producer brother MoneyMakinMyles, he’s a big help to me. I wanted to get better at my craft so I attended college and thats where I started to perfect my craft. Now today I am BigQuay Beatz, I have several placements from different artist, I am an on the call engineer for music sessions, and I endorse for brands as I did for my friend Dia Andrews recent drop Construction Pack.

Has it been a smooth road?
This road is not an easy road at all. In this game, you having to be strong-minded and also realize that there will be no handouts. You will find out who really supports you and who you can really depend on. There has been many sleepless nights, also you have slow days, and some days no work at all. Once you put in the hard work, time, and dedication in you can achieve any goal you wish to accomplish.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the BigQuay Beatz story. Tell us more about the business.
My company is BigQuay Productions. I am a producer/engineer and I am a professional musical composer that specializes in the manipulation of sounds and multitudes of instrumentation. I am known for production for artist such as Eilo Sensei, Kaydee Laflaire, Don Khaoss, and Ace Bennyy. Ive been brand ambassadors for DTLR, Stocks n Bonds, Construction Pack, and many more. What sets me apart from others is that I bring my own unique sound to my music. My melodies are a vibe and all of my production takes you on a groove cruise. I have my own style, I don’t intentionally stand out but much more prefer to stay in my lane. If you hear,” Play That Big Quay” then you can be sure its a hit!

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The music industry is forever changing and the trends always shift but as long as you are good at networking, you can always learn. The next 5-10 years I see the industry going many places but I will stay educated and continue building relationships to continue prospering.
