Meet Denzel Hamlin Known as Dontius of NY

Today we’d like to introduce you to Denzel Hamlin.

Denzel, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started out creating music in my bedroom and writing songs at the age of ten. When I was 15, I entered into a local talent competition and won 1st place performing the rendition of “Billie Jean.” At that time, my parents decided to invest in my development and started managing my career.

About six years ago, I started sending my music to the Wu Music Group and after three years of sending music, I received a call from Rza the founder of the Wu-Tang Clan that he is looking for R&B singers and would like to give me an opportunity. I, then, received a call that Lionsgate’s had selected two of my songs to be in an upcoming movie called “Love Beats Rhymes” directed by the Rza, starring Jill Scott and Common. I was ecstatic and grateful.

Last year, Rza released my first EP called the Fourteenth. This year, I was blessed to have another song in a movie called “Thriller,” my song is called “I Wanna Know.”

This month, I will have two music videos released.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
This has not been an easy road. It takes patience, consistency and most importantly, faith and belief in yourself. I understand obstacles will always come, but you win when you push through them and be grateful for the little things.

I took time out from college to work on various projects and went back in 2016 and obtained my degree in Business Management with a concentration in music. This is what I highly recommend to all, get your education as you work on your dreams. I still have a journey ahead of me.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a Pop/R&B singer, dancer, and songwriter. My R&B Sound is different then what many are used to listening to it’s more trendy in a lane of its own. I have such a wide vocal range that I can create a lot of different music.

I have not been able to find an agent and that has been another challenge.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
There are so many that have supported me and continue to support me along the way.

First and foremost, God who continues to create my path and have given me wisdom and talent.

Second, my parents for believing in me and supporting me on this journey.

My mentor Rza, for believing and giving me an opportunity and for always giving me the words of encouragement and wisdom.

My Vocal coaches, Choreographer, Artist Consultants, Producers, VIDEOGRAPHERS and Photographers.

Finally, but not least, my family, friends, and fans.
