Meet Duana and Toni Hyde of HysisDesigns LLC in Midtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Duana and Toni Hyde.

Duana and Toni, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Our story is a simple one. Beginning in corporate America, we knew there was something greater we wanted to do. In 2007, Toni began making jewelry and bow ties while Duana focused on accessories like embellishing shoes, purses, and hats. What started off as a hobby soon grew and evolved. Design/Fashion has always been a part of who we were and even became a part of our identity from those we came in contact with. We continued to dibble and dabble with these things as hobbies and the Hyde sisters came up with the name HysisDesigns.

Around 2009 or so, Toni needed an outfit for an event. She didn’t want to wear the same ole things she saw in the store and decided to step out on faith. She took her talent… to the sewing machine. This truly elevated HysisDesigns to the next level. Our spiritual foundation and the support of our loved ones helped HysisDesigns become an LLC in 2017. Since then, we have created collections that have been seen at events like Raw New Orleans, the Voodoo Ball during Essence 2018, Shuba magazine in 2018, and several photo shoots. Our clientele has become steady and we are planning shows in Atlanta for 2019. We have also confirmed a new collection that will be seen for the 2020 Paris Fashion Week.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The biggest challenge we have faced is surrounding PR and Marketing to help us establish our presence in Atlanta and with stylist and influencers.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
We design custom “Fluid Fashion” pieces for the innovative woman. A woman who’s a trendsetter enjoys looking like a Diva in pieces designed exclusively for her. We’ve coined the term Fluid Fashion because we design our pieces to go not just from day to night, but also, a season to season and we think this fashion stance will set us apart from most. It’s all in the styling. It may be a belt here or a hat and heels there that will help you transform your look. HysisDesigns LLC would like to be known for two things. First, as designer mentors to those in our community trying to break into the fashion industry and secondly, as notable fashion designers whose creations transcend from generation to generation that can be seen at very influential events. HysisDesigns takes pride in walking in the obedience of the Most High and know that if we stay true to our roots and who we are, we will truly succeed in this fashion industry.

What were you like growing up?
We are eight years apart, very alike and very different. Duana is a Diva, everything has to be in place and complete before she walks out of the door. Hair, makeup, nails all have to be groomed and on point. She wears heels to football games and to the office daily. Everything must sparkle and shine with her. She is a true extrovert who can make friends with anyone. A true lover of people. Toni is the cool one. She will rock a jumpsuit, a slamming dress, or camouflage with a hat and sneakers all day. She is the introvert; I mean she definitely likes people, but not as much as I do. I like R&B and Toni is all about the Soca/Caribbean life. We both love our family unconditionally and will have your back whenever we are needed. We definitely play off of each other and that is why we work well together.
