Life and Work with Luisa Fernanda Ocampo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Luisa Fernanda Ocampo.

Luisa Fernanda , please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was working a 9-5 in the pharmaceutical area and I wanted a creative outlet. I’ve always liked fashion and used it as a form of self expression, so I thought a fashion geared blog would be a good idea. I also liked that this hobby could be a potential source for additional income. I started off by interning for a social media influencer in NJ. I learned a lot, mostly that i wanted to keep this as a hobby and something fun for myself. Fast forward a few years and though the underlying thought is the same some things have changed. I’m focusing on just my instagram, it’s something i can commit to and have fun with. I will launch my site if i feel like i can provide meaningful content for my audience. I also want my instagram to be a mix of my personal and professional interests. I just finished my degree in public health and I’m super passionate about environmental justice, climate action and sustainable design, fashion is part of all of that. Being a conscious consumer is not just good for the planet but also good for our bank accounts, I’m just starting out on the path towards financial freedom and it’s something I want to share with my followers. I want to share all the parts of my life that make me me, and to just have fun with it.

Has it been a smooth road?
No it has not been easy, self doubt kicks in hard. I used to get all in my head and double think everything, now I try to not think twice. I’ve embraced myself, I’ve stoped heavily editing my pictures and words and thoughts. I post what I want when I want, of course self doubt will always be there, but i’ve started to love the skin I’m in. I want to be transparent and authentic with my followers, and I want followers that are receptive to that. So i’ve stopped worrying to some degree on number and like counts and more on just posting what makes me happy.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with @lui.ohh – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I just graduated with my masters in Public Health, so I”m freelancing for the summer! I work in global health, social services, social enterprise and usually anything environmentally/climate related. I’m most proud of my accomplishments as a woman of color and as an immigrant!

Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well positioned for?
I think women are well positioned for any opportunity they set their minds on. It will take a lot of work, but once you discover your own value and potential you will realize it is possible. There will always be barriers, but we overcome them and eventually reduce them for the women that will come after us.
