Meet Rylan Benèt of We Heart ATL Artists in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rylan Benèt.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Rylan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Art is a great love of mine and I’m always looking for innovative ways to share it and create it. In 2016, I lived in New York where I worked in the studio Ideal Glass. Working there really exposed me to how diverse and intimate the art community there is. They show so much appreciation to the arts. Literally, every Wednesday, the city is crawling with art events. This made me think “there are just as many great artists in Atlanta so why can’t we adopt the same mindset?”

When I came back to Atlanta that following Summer, my goal was to solely produce my own art show. Through doing this, I realized how scattered the Atlanta art community is. It was so difficult to locate people to exhibit in my show because there were no specific networking sources for artists. At that moment, I decided to create the art group We Heart ATL Artists, a Facebook group and weekly newsletter that keeps all subscribers informed on art jobs, calls, events, and news.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Most definitely not but the biggest success stories never come easy, right? I can honestly say the biggest struggle for me is consistency. I never want my subscribers to miss any updates due to my slacking. I wanted them to get used to seeing the name We Heart ATL Artists in their inboxes every week. However, having a full-time job and finding time to create newsletters, articles, and images isn’t easy. But like the saying goes from entrepreneur John Rohn “If you really want to do something, you’ll find a way. If you don’t, you’ll find an excuse.”

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Apart from the We Heart ATL Artists group, I’m also a photographer. Photography is something I delved into after graduating from the Art Institute. I bring more of an artistic eye to the table when taking pictures. I love to use angles, vivid colors, and interesting surroundings. Bringing a new perspective on subjects with my photos is my objective.

I’m proud when people can look back at the photos I take of them and say “I didn’t know I could look so cool.” Obviously, you can look that cool, it just takes a photographer like me, to find that cool angle and pull that out of you.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Once again consistency. Consistency plays a huge factor in a company’s success. The more customers see you, the more they will remember you. Staying consistent could also involve following up, updates, content, branding, and just putting yourself out there.
