Meet Khi Jaggie of Seven’s Kitchen Creations in Kennesaw

Today we’d like to introduce you to Khi Jaggie.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Khi. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up very southern and country in the small town of Athens, Georgia, home of the Georgia Bulldogs. I was raised by my maternal grandparents until I was sixteen years old, I had a very “old fashioned” upbringing. In the absence of my birth father, my grandfather was the only father I knew. I would bake with my father and grandmother, I started baking around five years old. Growing up in a country setting, we made homemade buttermilk biscuits, cinnamon rolls, cakes, and fresh fruit preserves, all of which the recipes were passed down throughout the generations. I learned everything I know from them. I loved being in the kitchen and I especially loved being able to get my hands dirty. My father was your typical dad, loved football, being on his grill and being outdoors, but he really loved to bake. Baking was an outlet for us and also allowed us time to bond.

In August of 2016, my dad passed away the night before my sophomore year of college started and I went into a downward spiral. I did not want to finish school and really lost my interest in being in the kitchen. It always reminded me of memories I would never get back with the person I loved more than anything. I started to put all of my time into working and school to fill the empty feeling I felt inside. My dad was my best friend.

Thanksgiving of 2017, my grandmother asked me to make the dessert for our Thanksgiving dinner and I had not been back in the kitchen baking wise since my father’s death. I reluctantly agreed and asked what she would like. She requested things from my father’s little black book, his black book is where he kept handwritten index note cards with all of his recipes in alphabetical order. I made a few of his favorite and signature baked goods. I was scared to serve them because I did not want to bring shame to his legacy of baking but surprisingly, they asked for more. After that Thanksgiving, I was asked at every family gathering to bring dessert(s).

Along came Seven’s Kitchen Creations. I worked behind the scenes for about a year, gaining more and more confidence as time went by. I finally decided I wanted to expand my gift and my re-kindled love with the world. After many nights of planning and debating, I settled on my business name and what I wanted to stand on, which is quality over quantity as well as flavor over presentation. January of this year, I launched publicly on social media “Seven’s Kitchen Creations.” With God’s grace and favor, the ball has been rolling since.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Absolutely not. When I started my business, I not only was a full-time student but I was working two part-time jobs to survive. I had so many orders I was missing sleep to be able to balance all of my responsibilities. I remember everyone around me telling me I needed to pick what was important to me because I was going to run myself into the ground balancing so much. I knew school was not an option to help eliminate the craziness so I walked out on faith and quit my jobs one by one. I was terrified because I am the sole provider for my schooling, living expenses, and everyday needs. I went through a phase where I was recycling every dollar I made to buy new equipment and items until I had what I needed to truly flourish. There have been times where I did not have money to pay for wants, but all of my needs were met off of my business alone. It worked out by the grace of God. It has not been smooth but it has been so rewarding and worth it. I have learned so much about myself and what a blessing it is to be able to be of service to others.

Seven’s Kitchen Creations – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I wanted my business name to have a meaning and a purpose. I chose the name Seven’s Kitchen Creations because of the number seven stands for completeness and perfection, from both a spiritual and a physical aspect. I was in a dark, broken space for a while and I realized I was still me and I myself alone, was enough to keep going. I am perfect and complete in the eyes of God.

I offer a large variety of baked goods, sugar creations, cheesecake shooters, brownies and more. I specialize in cupcakes and I am working my way up to someday say I specialize in cakes. I still have a long way to go with my cake decorating skills. I am just scratching the service with cakes. I am mainly known for my whimsical flavors like my “Cookie Monster” cupcake and my “Peaches & Cream” cupcake. I am also known for my velvet flavors.

I am most proud of my customer service and my desire to make my clients feel like they are family and not just another paycheck or financial opportunity. Without customers and clients, you can not thrive.

What sets me apart is the hard work and dedication I put into my brand. I do not believe in cutting corners. I only want the best for my customers/clients. I work hard and I believe in “old fashioned” favors. I like to stick to the tried and true ways of baking. I think today, in a world curated and driven by social media, everything is solely focused on appearance and aesthetic versus the actual flavor. I tell clients all the time, I rather my food taste good than looking good. I have turned down some projects because they were so infatuated with the aesthetic and not the quality/flavor behind it. I only want to produce a good tasting, quality items.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I think success is determined on your happiness and not achievements or monetary things. I think you have truly found success when you can wake up in the morning and still be happy despite the things that may go wrong or be going wrong. I do not think a lot of money makes you successful because I have met people with millions and they are not truly happy inside with their life. Success is when you value and appreciate every aspect of your life, good and bad. It could always be worse.

I think if you wake up with your health, a grateful heart, people who love you, food to eat, a place to live and cloths on your back then you are successful. These are the things that truly matter in a lifetime. Not the kind of car you drive or how much is in your bank account.
