Today we’d like to introduce you to Maci Smoot.
Maci Smoot. She went natural in 2012 and found it very difficult to find products that work for her hair type and was clueless on how to care for her hair. She soon decided to create her own natural hair and skin care line to guarantee that everyone will have reliable products they could use and trust. She also starts one of the most popular natural hair accounts on Instagram “BerryCurly” in 2013 and from there has helped thousands of women with their hair and now has a following of 500k+. The company name “Creole Belle” was created to highlight the founders love for her hometown New Orleans and the Creole culture and people from there including her Grandmother and Great Grandfather. Maci has also created a baby/kids hair and skin product line for babies and/or kids who may suffer from sensitive skin and: or eczema and other skin issues. My mom (Sabrina Martin) is the person that runs our product line and social media account. She also thought the whole idea of the company including the name that is based on my last name “Smoot.”
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have faced many obstacles, but the biggest would have to be trying to gain my trademark for my hair care line creole Belle organics. I’m grateful that I finally have it! Also, another big challenge would have to be running a company while being a mother. It has been very challenging but I would change it for nothing. My daughter (Kimiko) has been my biggest motivation.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory would have to include being with my Uncle Larry. He used to babysit me all the time when my mom was at work or school and he was almost like a second dad to me. I enjoyed the trips to the park and other places that he took me. He died in 2005 after Hurricane Katrina from cancer. That time of my families life was really difficult not knowing where my family members were etc.
