Today we’d like to introduce you to Petrina Turner.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started our financial freedom business out of a desperate need for our family to become financially free. A few years ago, my husband and I sat down to review our finances because we were in such a low place and we knew something had to change. We knew we could not have a better life for ourselves as well as our three boys if we did not take control of our finances once and for all. So, I decided to get a better paying (although it took up a lot of time, but sacrifice, right?) and I also used my gifts, skills, and talents to work my side hustle.
After nearly two years of working hard, creating and sticking to a budget, and saving for a rainy day, we were able to pay off $40,000 worth of debt (and counting). While we were on this journey, I created a blog to help other families which turned into a business.
Has it been a smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth ride. I have learned that personal finances are just that–personal. Many people want to get their finances in order but are sometimes so ashamed of their financial conditions that they do not ask for help, which I totally understand. With any journey, there will be ups and downs. Sometimes, you fall off the wagon, but you just have to pick yourself back up. We are able to encourage other families because we have made plenty of mistakes and have been ashamed of where we stood as well, but the goal is just to keep moving. Everyone will make mistakes along the way. The struggle can be real, but with dedication, motivation, and education, financial freedom is attainable.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
So, I am a Financial Freedom Coach and I educate, encourage and equip families to Be FREE by giving them tips and strategies to create and stick to a budget, save for a rainy day and show them how they can use their own skills to generate additional streams of income. I believe I am different because I look at it from a family’s perspective. My goal is to build and leave a legacy for my children so I can leave them something other than bills. I want to leave them a financial legacy and I want to help other families do the same.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and the least?
Although we live in Savannah, my husband is from Atlanta, so we visit often. I just love the vibe, the culture, the creativity and the ability to always have something to do when we visit.
