Today we’d like to introduce you to Allie Friday.
Allie Friday, an Atlanta entrepreneur, designer and mom realize a lifelong dream with the opening of her children’s clothing boutique, Mini Friday, at 2033 Hosea L. Williams Drive NE in the Kirkwood neighborhood. Mini Friday brings unique children’s fashions to Atlanta, mostly from the United Kingdom and West Coast, and is committed to celebrating each and every child’s own style while not dictating that girls wear pink and boys wear blue unless they want to. For children who don’t like to shop, Mini Friday offers a joyful, playful, safe zone featuring a selfie and chalkboard wall and juice bar.
The shop name is an extension of Allie’s last name and plays on the fact that her children are “mini” versions of herself. Her last name offers a fortuitous throw to the celebratory connotation associated with Fridays which compliments Allie’s belief that all children are to be celebrated.
To give back to both society and the earth, Mini Friday encourages customers to return outgrown or no-longer-used clothing for a discount on their next purchase. Mini Friday then donates the returned clothing, as long as it’s in good condition, to local children’s initiatives thus serving the community and reducing the number of textile goods going to landfills.
Allie, born in East Point and raised in Stone Mountain, has always been interested in style and drew her first fashion line at age ten. Her personal fashion mentors include June Ambrose, Jaden Smith, and TenishaTenisha, an Atlanta personal stylist. As a business owner, Allie distilled her early design days, working with international fashion brands, life experience, and her mom-know-how to conceptualize Mini Friday. An early interest in alternative music and anime set Allie apart from her peers and, being familiar with being seen as different, she can relate to kids who want to chart their own course.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Opening a flagship boutique in Atlanta has always been a dream, but finding the right space was difficult. I was fortunate to find an amazing space in Kirkwood and really love the neighborhood. Also, since most of our lines come from overseas, dealing with customs isn’t always smooth sailing. Making sure the collections arrive in Atlanta on time can be a struggle.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Dedicated to comfort and celebrating each child’s unique style without judgment, “Mini Friday” is a new children’s boutique in Kirkwood with a selfie wall, juice bar and more for those children who don’t like to shop
Mini Friday brings unique children’s fashions to Atlanta, mostly from the United Kingdom and West Coast, and is committed to celebrating each and every child’s own style while not dictating that girls wear pink and boys wear blue unless they want to. Mini Friday offers a joyful, playful, safe zone.
“The inspiration for Mini Friday really came from my daughter who only wanted to wear clothes she thought were cool and comfy,” said owner Allie Friday. “She loved her brothers’ style but sometimes wanted to dress like her sister. Finding fashion for her that met in the middle was nearly impossible. I decided to stop struggling and just open my own gender neutral, safe space for all children who simply want to wear what they like, without judgment or necessity of mandatory girlie frills or macho flair.”
For those children who may not love to shop, the new 1,200 square-foot-space in Kirkwood is a joyful place for children to enjoy a fashion “no judgment” zone. Most brands are new to the Atlanta market and will make their debut at the boutique including Mini Rodini, A.B.C., Booso, Turtledove London, The When’ers Company, Mini Kid, Lets Kid, Joah Love, Carrots, Ammehola, Adam+Yve, Tai 2, Chewable charm, Hause of Jr, Superism, Sometime soon and Miles baby. Additionally, Mini Friday offers t-shirt customization and embroidery on site.
The boutique carries sizes 24 months to eight years. Store hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
What was you like growing up?
I was a wild child but always loved fashion, graphics, sketching and anything in the creative industry. I was always creating a new business or product, a true entrepreneur at heart.
