Today we’d like to introduce you to Daina Mitchell.
Daina, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
When I was a little girl, I’ve always been into art. Not necessarily like painting and drawing and things like that. I was more intrigued by how creativity can be displayed in numerous ways. I went to makeup school in New York City in 2012, O decided to pick up a “trade” instead of going to a traditional college. For a year, I perfected my craft then decided to go to the illustrious South Carolina State University, where I studied broadcast communications. While in school, I traveled back and forth to Atlanta, Ga knowing that one day, I would call this home. I got pregnant with my beautiful baby girl in 2015 and fell off track with my passion. My drive was gone! I dropped out of school and moved to Atlanta full time where I became a celebrity assistant for someone who was creating a makeup line ! I knew one day I couldn’t keep putting my dreams aside to fulfill someone else’s, especially expecting my first baby! One day, a lightbulb went off and I decided to save my money up and write my dreams down. My plan was to open a makeup bar after I gave birth. I fell into a postpartum depression which set my plan back a whole two years. Thankfully, my faith was restored and I started taking classes to expand my business so I would set my life up to become a beauty Mogul. I had a plan but God’s was bigger. Three years later and I’m here a business owner!
Has it been a smooth road?
The road hasn’t been smooth but I’ve learned never to lose sight of what the bigger picture is. It is easy to be a young entrepreneur and get off track. Everything Is Calculated. Discipline is a MUST. Separating myself from the “fun life” at first was my biggest problem. Also, having a child and running a business was hard at first! You want to be around your child as much as you can but you know you also need to handle your business. It gets a little easier as time goes on.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Armico Lux Beauty Bar story. Tell us more about the business.
Armico Lux Beauty Bar is a full-service beauty bar offering services such as makeup, lash extensions, permanent makeup, and full face and body treatments! My personal favorite to do is makeup and permanent makeup. The one thing, almost a few, that makes me most proud about my company is that we are able to make people feel better about themselves each and every day. We like to be mindful about not only doing the service but while they are there make them feel at home
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Originally from New Jersey, I plan to expand and open another beauty bar at home and continue gaining accolades to expand my craft
