Today we’d like to introduce you to Janel Nicole.

Janel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born on July 27th and raised in the City of Wilmington, Delaware. I am a Five-Time Grammy Ballot Finalist from the 51st Annual Grammy Awards. My entries for The National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences; include the following categories: Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, Best R&B Song and Best Rap Solo Performance. To add, I am a Top Twelve Finalist in the American Idol Regionals.

At the age of five, I developed a love for singing, acting, and writing. I performed in numerous plays, as well as, concerts. To add, I’m a graduate of The Cab Calloway Creative and Performing Arts School.

In my adolescent years, I participated in various extracurricular activities, such as: karate, modeling, acting, choir, dance, cheer-leading, track & field, girl scouts and advanced learning classes.

In 1998, I graduated from John Dickinson High School and later pursued a Dual Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Biology & Small Business Management from Delaware Technical & Community College. I continued my Business Management studies with Penn Foster College.

In my late teenage years, I owned and operated two twenty-four hour Private Christian Childcare Schools (Gifted Minds Childcare I & II). Following that, I owned and operated a convenience store (Spotlight’s at Janel’s) and an entertainment company. (Worldwide Music & Travel Link) Most importantly, I pursued a degree in Theology.

In 2001, I joined ASCAP and opened my own publishing company. (Granny Goose Publishing)

In 2009, I relocated to Roswell and Alpharetta, Georgia to pursue a career in the Music, Film & Television Industry. Within months of my arrival, I began ministering to a vast number of communities in Fulton County; as a Pastoral Biblical Counselor. (Disciples Etiquette Biblical Counseling & Training Center) In addition, I began mentoring at several schools and volunteering my time at local churches and non-profit organizations.

One of my many goals was to pursue a Masters Degree in Cosmetology, therefore I enrolled into Empire Beauty School located in Dunwoody, Georgia and graduated with High Honors. To add, I was the student guest speaker and was awarded a plaque for the student of the entire year. Following graduation, I opened a record label (One Lifeline Music Group), signed myself and released a single, entitled: “Lifeline” this empowering song can be digitally downloaded on every digital media platform.

Shortly after achieving that goal, I went on to pursue a Bachelors Degree in Digital Film-making and Video Production from The Art Institute of Atlanta.

In 2019, I opened Ambient Digital Media Studios and wrote, produced and directed my first film “Unequally Yoked.” The genre of the film is drama and it is about a grieving young woman, who ignores the warning signs from a messenger about a mysterious and emotionally unstable stranger. The tagline is: “It happens when opposites attract,” It is scheduled to be distributed this summer, We hope to promote the film throughout various churches worldwide and internationally. We intend to empower people from all walks of life. Moreover, I’m prepared to release a few singles from my “Running On Fumes Album this summer, as well.

To date, I have been sought after to write, produce and direct numerous short films, feature films, music videos, commercials, and documentaries.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road for me wasn’t smooth at all, When I turned sixteen years old, my mother informed me of her severe cardiovascular condition. She went on to tell me that she was dying, due to a failing heart. A few times, she mentioned having dreams of meeting her grandchildren; before she passed away and asked me to bear children for her at a young age, At first, I was hesitant, but later decided to honor my mother’s requests.

I gave birth to a boy and a girl. A few years after giving birth, my mother succumbed to her heart condition and went on to be with the Lord. Prior to her leaving, I promised her; that I would continue singing and being success driven. Therefore, I never complained about my journey and God never put more on me than I could bear and to this day, I begin and end my day with a smile and a prayer. Most importantly, I thank God for allowing me the opportunity to keep my word.

My advice for individuals pursuing their purpose in life is very simple… Always “Trust God.” He will give you the desires of your heart. He is a way maker. He will never leave you, nor forsake you. He will provide your every need and He will strengthen you when you are weak. His promises are always yes and amen and if you obey His word and His will, He will bless you beyond your wildest dreams. Therefore, dream BIG, keep the faith and work consistently towards your goals, while experiencing the LOVE of God!

Furthermore, do everything decently and in order and make sure you have a reputable entertainment/business lawyer. Finally, network, network, network.

Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Currently, I am a singer, songwriter, rapper, recording artist, screenwriter, executive producer, director, filmmaker, cosmetologist, mentor, volunteer, mother, superwoman and entrepreneur. I make a living off of creating content that I love and I specialize in helping others live out their dreams, create content and inspire others to inspire others. I’m known for being the most positive over-achieving go-getter. A few years ago, I won an award for being the most positive person.

I’m most proud of providing a service that I enjoy and what sets me apart from others is the fact that there’s only one me.

For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
I believe wherever there is a need and/or an opportunity and a woman is passionate about fulfilling it, she should, because every need creates an opportunity to make an honest living. Most importantly, it teaches others to believe that all things are possible.
