Today we’d like to introduce you to Tosin Oduwole.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born in Saint Louis, Missouri and attended Junior High & High School in Europe & Africa. Upon returning to the states, I worked for my mother running a number of family-owned nursing homes in the midwest.
In 2009, I moved to New Jersey to expand and grow my own Consulting firm with a focus in Finance but dappled I’m content creation and media production.
I ventured into the hospitality industry by acquiring a Sports Bar in Manhattans East Village Neighborhood.
My 2020 goals are to launch an investment fund under the Oduwole Enterprises umbrella that invests in Tech in Africa.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s been extremely difficult to get to the space I am at now. I battled with lack of capital, lack of credibility in the business space as well as the high cost of living in New Jersey that made it extremely difficult to save enough money to launch a startup. I had to learn real estate and business through trial and error and usually, that error led to losing a massive amount of my own money that took me years to save. These did prove to be great learning g experiences as I saw first hand the do’s and donts of managing expenses and growing revenue.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Oduwole Enterprises specializes in real estate acquisition and business development. We are known for purchasing multi-family property between 2-16 units for rental income. Also, we provide capital to other startup businesses to assist them in growing in exchange for equity in the venture. What I’m most proud of about my companies culture is our ability to be able to recognize talent at the ground level. We never get to high and mighty to not see the vision of others who we seek to partner with that may be in the beginning stages of their business. What sets us apart from others is our relentless drive to build genuine connections with people prior to doing business with them. Often times we put more emphasis on the people behind the business over the actual business itself because in our eyes, we are always investing in people first and the business second. Relationships are key!
What were you like growing up?
I was very curious as a child, I always had to learn and experience new things and new people. I grew up around many different cultures and different kind of people and it allowed me to see the world through a different lens than the other kids I grew up around. Majority of my friends were older than me and I definitely grew up fast. I taught myself how to drive at 13 years old by taking my moms car out when she was away at work and driving around the neighborhood until I got a hang of it. The internet was always apart of my childhood as I had access to computers at school and I would always go to AskJeeves.com to search different things that intrigued me.
