Today we’d like to introduce you to Deanna Marie.

Deanna, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was introduced to the make up world by my father. I was sort of a tomboy growing up and when it was time to go to my high school prom, I did not have a makeup artist. So, my dad went out to Sephora, showed my photo and had the women there pick out every piece of the product I needed plus more. When he came home, he tossed the makeup on the bed and said: “here, do it yourself.” This is when the YouTube Era was just now popping off, so I went on to YouTube and figured it out. Here I am, years and years later, a Pro Make Up Artist!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
In the beginning, it was easy because I was just doing it for fun. When it came to actually take it seriously? Oh yeah, there were some bumps. I mean there are still bumps because you only want to be better than you were yesterday. The advice I give to women starting their journey is to promote yourself until there’s no more free time to promote!

Please tell us about your work.
I am a Pro Make Up Artist. I have been in the cosmetic industry for about seven years professionally and three years before, self-taught. I specialize in Natural, Glam, On-Camera/Stage, Editorial, and Bridal Make-Up. What sets my brand aside from most is that I believe in comfortability and giving exceptional customer service.

Do you think there are structural or other barriers impeding the emergence of more female leaders?
In my opinion, a lot of women start to feel a sense of entitlement once their business starts to increase. I believe we have to treat the next customer as it was our first.
