Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyshona Gresham.
Kyshona, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I became a loan officer after I purchased my first home with my husband at 27 years old. Unfortunately, the loan officer we were working with was not attentive to us because we were not buying a high-end property. He continued to put us on the back burner. After that failed, we got in contact with another loan officer who gave us a totally different experience. Very pleasant & made me feel like we were his only client! I was already contemplating a new career (I worked in garnishments & HATED IT-besides, I did not feel I was using all of my talents to help others), so I took a chance. I was so scared but took a true leap of faith. I felt that this was right up my alley.
After I had my second son, I quit my job & pursed being a loan officer full time. It has been many ups & downs, blood, sweat & tears, failures, but the warm feeling I get when I am apart of someone becoming a homeowner and the start of them building wealth is BEYOND AMAZING! So, no matter what is thrown my way, I continue to walk in my true calling. I love every moment of it. The sleepless nights, the client that is calling me to save their deal, bad news, tears of joy at the closing table, all of it makes it worth wild. As the saying goes, “Anything worth doing isn’t going to be easy.”
The feeling I get when I am able to get the approval for someone’s home loan, unmatched. I make sure I tell the story of the client’s profile as efficient as possible. I see things in loans the average loan officer doesn’t. It’s almost like the paperwork speaks to me :-). Hence my name, The Loan Whisperer.”
So, five years later, customer service & creating an experience has and always will be #1 for myself and my team! My goal is to make as many homeowners as I can before I decide to pass the torch to the next generation of loan officers!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
This road will never be smooth. You might get a smooth deal now & then. But the road is bumpy overall. There will always be struggles in this industry. Partnering with the right agents, deals falling through, clients walking away at the end, you name it, I’ve seen it in these short five years. What separates me from most is I stay calm under any type of pressure.
Please tell us about The Loan Whisperer with New American Funding.
I am a loan officer for New American Funding. I specialize in residential mortgage loans. I have become a first-time homebuyer specialist without even trying. I am most proud of the many homeowners I have created plus the growth of my company from just word of mouth. What sets me apart is my passion to create homeowners. I am never afraid for someone to hold me accountable. I do not try to act like I do not make mistakes. I am a human too. I will admit fault then reconcile it. As I stated before, customer service is number 1 for me.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have started at an earlier age. Maybe right after college. For me, right out of high school would’ve been too soon. Needed a little life experience to have the confidence. This industry is tough & will spit you out if you show any doubt with yourself.
