Today we’d like to introduce you to Tonyael Miller.
Tonyael, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was a chronic yo-yo dieter. I started working out back in 2013, exactly one year after I had my daughter. From 2013 to 2017, I would lose weight just to gain it back again. Looking back, I know this was linked to emotional stress. I was in an abusive relationship, which caused my depression to last until 2015. It wasn’t until my therapist recommended for me to start working out as another form of therapy that I started down the path to educating myself, however, my workouts and dieting were not consistent and I was still unstable mentally. On top of that, I was a new mom still in a bad relationship. In 2013, I worked out with my first trainer and was very inconsistent. In 2015, I lost 30 lbs and ran my first 10-mile race. I worked really hard to keep the weight off but in 2016, I got offered a job in Atlanta and at that point, I decided, hey let me just live it up. I instantly gained all my weight back and was at square one, yet again. I went home for Christmas and saw how much weight I’d gained and was disgusted with myself. At that point, I realized I couldn’t continue to do this. In January 2017, I signed up for a 30-day transformation plan and was pleased with my results. I again let the holidays creep back in and gained a few pounds so, in January 2018, I decided to get a trainer in Atlanta and really push myself to focus. January 2018 was a turning point in my life. That year, I finally reached my goal weight and decided to never give up on myself again. 2018 was a turning point in my life. In December 2018, I created #fitgirlsocool. #fitgirlsocool is a health and wellness initiative designed to promote health and wellness while focusing on four components of fitness (physical, mental, spiritual, financial).
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
We all face obstacles it is how I turn my obstacles into opportunities which helps mold me and make me stronger. I’ve experienced lots of closed doors and people stealing my ideas, not wanting to help me and point me in the right direction. I use that as my motivation to show them that no matter what obstacles come my way, I’m determined to make it.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
#fitgirlsocool currently offers monthly boot camps, 21 days challenges, personal training, online coaching, and workshops/seminars. I also obtained my personal training certification in 2019. #fitgirlsocool allows me to educate and motivate others by sharing my experiences, struggles, and adversities as a single mom, domestic violence survivor and mental health advocate. In addition to personal training and my health and wellness initiative, I am also a fitness model and working on creating a non for profit version of #fitgirlsocool. Hopefully, this inspires someone who wants to give up and think they can’t do it. It’s ok to start over but remember consistency is key.
What were you like growing up?
I’ve always been an introvert and leader my whole life. Growing up I always knew I was destined for greatness because I was never one to follow a crowd. I always did my own thing and stayed to myself. I tend to follow the same trends as an entrepreneur and an adult which can be a good and bad thing. Being a leader is always a positive thing but opening up and motivating others even when you don’t feel like it can be quite challenging but it’s definitely worth the reward of people telling me the positive influence I have on them and being able to change lives on a daily basis.
