Meet Jessica Fairnot of SlayLizzySlay in Buckhead

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Fairnot.

Jessica, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a self-taught Makeup Artist in Atlanta. My name is Jessica E(liz)abeth which is where I get the name Lizzy from. Which is where I got my business name. I wanted something different besides “beat by” “on the beat” etc… I started doing makeup after high school. I was actually not sure about what I really wanted to do besides starting my clothing brand (2theleft), but I knew I needed money for the big dreams I had. I knew I was good at a lot of things but just didn’t know which direction to go and I knew a 9-5 wasn’t an option. So, I started modeling and was getting my makeup done every time I did a shoot. Which, of course, is ladies know can be very costly. So, I just thought to myself one day, Kent starts doing my own makeup! And to my surprise, I was actually good at it and people started asking me to do their makeup so I said why not! And it’s been history ever since.

Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth road, but I don’t think being an entrepreneur is easy AT ALL! But you just have to stay down and really keep a positive attitude towards it. People used to turn their nose up to me at first. Like she doing makeup? Or didn’t trust me to do their face. It really did kill my ego but I just had to stay strong. And eventually, I grew and got better and the same people who didn’t want me to do their face are trying to book me now.

My business specializes in making ladies feel beautiful. I do makeup full time, different looks for different occasions. I cater to ALL skin tones. I’m known for my eyeshadow looks and my makeup looking natural and pretty in real life not just on camera. I think what sets me apart is that I don’t just throw anything on someone’s faces like another MUA might. I like to take my time on my work and really achieve a certain look.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I like that my city has so many different people and that you can really network and meet some people who can actually help you and put you in a position to win. But what I dislike is that you never know what people’s intentions are and everyone’s vibe doesn’t match yours.
