Today we’d like to introduce you to Jarvis Lovett.
Jarvis, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always been into music since elementary school, but I didn’t start out as a rapper. I played in the band and was in chorus. I played the cello, viola, violin, alto sax, and bass. I won perfect ratings as first chair saxophonist in the GMEA. That is just my professional music background. Outside of playing instruments, I was always in the studio. My cousin, Columbia Bt, had a hit single out called “check my footwork”, and I recorded my first song with my other cousins Skyroc and Dici (now 2uandon). They inspired me to want to be like them because of the way people looked up to them but I didn’t think that rapping was a lane I would soon one day take over. I ended up going to Georgia Southern University and found myself. Turns out I’m lit. i threw parties with the promo team Lawless and threw parties at my own spot. I quickly became a star on campus. The person known for having all the moves and always lit. I tried to get into hosting but that really wasn’t for me, The best part of that was getting used to being the center of attention for thousands of college students. Which isn’t an easy crowd to please. 2016 I dropped my first single on iTunes and performed that song in front of thousands and thats how I knew that I am destined to be this rockstar rapper. I google any questions or answers I need. Thats honestly how I got to where I am today, including owning my own pandora station.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road for an independent artist is anything but smooth. Everybody wants to be on top, Strangers will support you before people who’ve known you your whole life. The road to being #1 on billboard is long and tuff, especially with the mindset that you could drop a song and be famous overnight. I’ve driven all the way to Statesboro, GA to open up for Trouble and light skin Keisha only to be played around with the whole time I got down there, Ended up not performing. Luckily got a refund. I’ve had people calling to pretend to be labels. I’ve had radio stations and managers tell me songs were trash in live feeds on Instagram. Its been anything but good laughs all day and waiting to be signed by people that don’t care to hear how nice your song is but to thrive off an artist who already has revenue coming in that can easily be flipped. A good manager is harder to find.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Barvis – what should we know?
Barvis is that organic sound that your soul craves. Even though I make money from dropping songs, each time I get behind the mic I’m trying to make greatness. Bringing back that originality in music. I specialize in cloud rap, sharing a fanbase with Lil Uzi Vert, Juice Wrld, Trippie Redd, etc. My unique sound is what sets me apart. I do not use autotune. My lyrics are real, not like your typical “I rap” ppl you run across all over Atlanta. My biggest accomplishment would have to be either performing at Birthday Bash ATL or SXSW in Texas. I also have my own Pandora station.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
My favorite childhood memory was when it snowed in Atlanta like 3-5 inches. It was so much snow I made my first ever snowman. That was kinda cool to me because where I come from, cool moments like that only happens on movies.
