Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaquam Mccoy.
Born Jaquam Mccoy on February 21st, 1992 in Waterbury, Connecticut. Jaquam is the 3rd of nine children. From as far back as he can remember, his childhood ears were filled with Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Usher, and many more notable artists. Inspired by their artistry, he began studying these moguls every second of the day. He showcased his talents at church and joined singing groups throughout his upbringing. Around the age of 15, he was convicted of a violent crime and was sentenced to ten years of prison. He chose to invest the time he’d be spending into perfecting his craft. He created his vision and transferred the pain into the pen. After a long hiatus, he has completely rehabilitated and has put all of his emotions into his music, worshipping in song and melody. A big advocate of second chances, he’s looking for mentorship, exposure, and a partnership to be able to tell his story on a bigger platform. Jaquam McCoy is not only a R&B singer and songwriter, he’s an artist all around the board that will change the way we all listen to music.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Everything that I’ve been through from the age of 15 until now has been a constant struggle with learning my life. That’s just my creator and his divine purpose. It has been a bittersweet never-ending segment of events that has proved to me that with true endurance and relentlessness anything is possible. The center of my drive comes from my relationship with God and has gotten me through thus far. From losing a 3rd of my life to mass incarceration, to being stereotyped based off of that and my skin color, I’ve been an underdog, but the marathon continues always.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
So my business is actually my testimony. And I say that because we walk in faith and not by sight. Music is the language to connect that inner relationship with myself and God, but more importantly, his people (all people). Music is my business because it’s like Gospel of my truth. However, when I am afforded the opportunities to invest capital into my brand, RAMBO, we will start a nonprofit organization to help people realize their purpose/gifts through their struggles.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Finally trusting myself. I’ve always believed in myself, but I used to allow my environment and other opinions to dictate my moves. If I had to start over, I would have listened a little more, paid more attention to the signs, and had more faith in my abilities. All in all, I’m already in motion serving God’s purpose for my life, I know I’ll have much more to bring proud of!
