Today we’d like to introduce you to David “Skribs” Payan.
David, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Coming up from Miami, I headed to Atlanta after a couple of years of tattooing under me. The plan was to kick it, bust out some tattoos and keep it moving onto the next city. I ended up staying. Couldn’t help but be drawn to the underground creative scene. The sense of community in the arts/music scene was something I hadn’t experienced yet, it made it really easy to do my thing. Been pushing my visuals out here ever since.
Has it been a smooth road?
Nothing worth going through is easy. In a city full of so many pushing their own creative agenda, it can be hard to stick out. I just keep my head down and keep pushing. It’s kind of fun not knowing what tomorrow brings, as an artist though it did make things unpredictable and at times, set me back. I wouldn’t trade it for anything though.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Live Free Tattoo story. Tell us more about the business.
I work at Live Free Tattoo, for Jason Kelly. Among Atlanta’s finest tattooers. Specializing in anything that walks in through the door. Probably known more for rowdier tattoos, the loud ones that make a statement, haha.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Tattooing is alive and it’s definitely not going anywhere. I feel like tattooing will keep going through inevitable changes but will always keep coming back to its core foundations.
