Today we’d like to introduce you to Zz Taylor.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
How I started? Damn that’s a throwback. I was in middle school jazz band when my interest for music first sprung to life. Recording live instruments into GarageBand and trying to use the DAW’s software instruments to complete instrumentals… eventually, I learned more about creating music and the genre I wanted to pursue. HIp-Hop became my medium of choice, heavily influenced by artists like Kid Cudi and Travis Scott. I utilized FL Studio to harvest my craft but unfortunately, the scene for Hip-Hop/Rap isn’t the same in Seattle, WA as it is in other parts of the country. It wasn’t that I couldn’t build a fan base, I probably could have. But I needed to know more about the music industry. My studies eventually landed me Atlanta, GA: the most vibrant city for Hip-Hop and upcoming entertainment. I have been here for almost two years, working in and out of studios as a producer/recording engineer, performing locally, and building my network.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” Matthew 7:13-14
Please tell us about The Midnight Collective.
I’m a hip-hop musician, where I differ from other artists is in my self-production. Creating the majority of my music from scratch, I have a very unique sound because of the true originality of my composition. Always keep it 100.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory was the first time I smoked weed. I was 14 years old skating through downtown Olympia, a suburb outside Seattle. Indeed, we have the best kush in the country. No matter how stoned I get, I could never forget.
