Meet Brittany Bonner of Blessed by BreeMarie in Midtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Bonner.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Brittany. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I guess doing hair came naturally for me, growing up, I watched my mother do hair as well as my grandmother. As a child, I always would play in my dolls hair, mainly braiding them putting way too much product on them Destroying them, lol. Eventually, around the age of 11 or 12, my grandmother obviously noticed something in me and purchased me my first professional mannequin. From that point on, I would basically see someone rocking a style and come home and duplicate it. From there, I continued to create my own styles. Once I moved to Atlanta and started high-school, they offered electives & I was able to select cosmetology as a choice. Throughout high-school, I would do my close friends and family hair, honing my skills. Once I graduated, I went back to Saginaw, Mi and enrolled in In Sessions Beauty School where I went on to win a few hair shows and ultimately graduate, pass my boards and move back to Atlanta. Once I moved back, I had a few retail jobs while doing hair on the side & when I tell you the hustle was real, it was REAL. I was literally doing hair for little to nothing but I still loved every minute of it, when I finally got the courage to step out on my own & do hair full time, my entire life changed.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The beginning of my career was definitely not easy but it helped shape & create the person & stylist I am today. I’ve had bad experiences with shop owners and individuals that would try to get over on me because they felt I was young and didn’t know much about the industry. But every experience/set back I’ve encountered has helped me in many ways. I value relationships, I understand that being a cosmetologist is not only about caring for and making people hair look good… it’s an experience. One in which I plan on making memorable from the time they cross my threshold…” you will be blessed when you come in, and blessed when you go out Deuteronomy 28:6.”

Happiness. Simple happiness. That’s my definition of success. I always wanted to be happy in whatever career I choose. A lot of people are not happy doing what they do… I am. So, that is a success.
