Today we’d like to introduce you to Shantel White.
Shantel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
So many of my friends and peers struggled through college trying to decide what to major in- my younger sister switched her major a whopping 7 times before her sophomore year because she didn’t know what exactly she was passionate about, but not me. I picked what I wanted to do an 8th grade career day. I’ll never forget it (maybe because I’ve told this story too many times).
Every decision I made from high school into college was to one day become a nutritionist that specialized in helping women of color because I felt that so many nutritional programs didn’t work for us. I wanted to be different than the average online coach who posted workout videos and useless content that didn’t truly change.
Just four months after graduating with a degree in Nutrition and Food Science and a concentration in Dietetics, I launched Shantel Taylor Nutrition.
Fast forward to today, and I’ll be celebrating my 2 year anniversary in business next month, with hundreds of transformations under my belt simply by focusing on changing routines and structure, breaking generational habits, and creating programs that are 100% catered to that particular woman and her unique schedule and body.
Has it been a smooth road?
Not at all! I grew up poor, single mom of six children, in a not-so-great neighborhood, never having a father in the picture so after starting and running a business, I had to break a lot of unhealthy habits internally. Like, not thinking I was good enough to be doing this on my own, not feeling worthy to charge for my services, feeling like my dreams were too big for my reality.
I quickly learned that my fear of failing had to be embraced, because it meant that I was reaching for goals that were obviously scary, but would also challenge me to grow- and in turn, help the women I was coaching to grow. I’m a firm believer in practicing what you preach.
I took a leap of faith and quit my full-time job as a nutritionist in a doctor’s office, and went full-time in my business. And since I didn’t have much to my name, I was terrified.
But, I never looked back- and I’m so happy I didn’t.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of. What sets you apart from others?
I’m a Certified Nutritionist and founder of the SHEtrition Program. I specialize in transforming women of color. I do this by providing 1-on-1 coaching, and providing tailored programs (that include custom meal plans and training).
The SHEtrition Program sets me apart from others because I focus on building sustainable habits, which is why my clients have such amazing results! I don’t send them a plan and then kick them to the curb- no! We focus on shifting real-life habits, changing routines, and taking baby steps to get to where we want to be because those small wins my client’s make lead to big, big victories.
