Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Cott.
Chris, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started building Lego (R) with my kids about 12 years ago. I would put them to bed at night and go finish up whatever we were building. They would wake up the next morning and marvel at what I made, then they would eventually destroy it while playing with it. I began making my own creations, MOCs, and selling them online. I had been selling online as a hobby since the 1990’s. I would create my own instructions, source the parts and put together kits. For fun, I started travelling the country with my family vending at Lego (R) conventions and comic cons, selling my MOCs and what I call “The World’s Largest Lego (R) Minifigure Collection For Sale”. One year at New York Comic Con, a guy named Ed Gaitani came up to my booth and it turns out he sold Lego (R) online as well and lived 2 miles from me in Newnan, GA. We stayed in touch and eventually teamed up to get 2,000 square feet of warehouse space so we could hire employees to come fill online orders. We decided we would spruce up the warehouse space and allow the public to come in and shop. Now we have 2,000 square feet of retail/warehouse space bursting at the seams with thousands of pounds of pick-a-brick, thousands of new & used discontinued sets, the World’s Largest Minifigure Collection For Sale, and tons of toy building brick accessories. We also have a 1,000-square foot event center adjacent to the store where we offer birthday parties, camps and clubs.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I started this business because I enjoy building, buying, selling & trading Lego (R). However, since opening a brick & mortar store, I get bogged down with paperwork and managing employees. It is very hard to be surrounded by one of the largest hordes of Lego (R) in the world and not have time to build with it.
Please tell us about Atlanta Brick Co.
We specialize in selling Lego (R) products you cannot find any place else. We have thousands of new & used discontinued sets, over 5,000 unique original Lego (R) brand minifigures displayed by theme, over 2,000 pounds of loose Lego(R) pieces you can pick through and then a parts wall where we can find exact pieces you need sorted by part & color. We also offer Birthday Parties, Field Trips, School Clubs, Camps, and Free Building Contests. We also buy & trade Lego(R). Lego(R) is as good as cash here.
Only about 10% of our inventory is online for sale, most of our products are only available in store.
We also sell Pokémon Cards. We found that Pokémon Cards compliment Lego(R) very well, so we sell Pokémon cards by the pack or as singles. We have one of the largest offerings of Pokémon cards in the south, we also buy & trade Pokémon cards as well. We will trade Pokémon for Lego(R) and vice versa.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Nothing, I do not look back.
