Meet Centerria Nicole

Today we’d like to introduce you to Centerria Nicole.

Centerria, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started my makeup career freelancing for MAC Cosmetics when I was 18 years old, then became a permanent artist with the company. I worked on and off for MAC for 7 1/2 years, transferring from Oklahoma City(hometown) to Atlanta in 2015. It’s been a dream of mine to work in Television and Film for a very long time so I knew Atlanta was becoming THE place to work in the film industry. When I first moved here, I worked in the only stand-alone MAC store, so it was where the professional artist shopped because they could use a pro discount card. That was very strategic because I got to interact with many artists in the industry and I could promote myself. In 2016, I began assisting on Dish Nation- working with The Rickey Smiley crew. Shortly after, more work started coming in and I was able to quit working at MAC and working for myself. Since then, I’ve worked on many television shows and movies and even been on tour. I am also really excited to launch my new skincare line “Skin by Cen” which will be available this fall.

Has it been a smooth road?
The journey has been amazing. Not because it’s been all roses, but because the journey has truly been mine. It’s taught me the true definition of hustle. Atlanta has so many talented makeup artist, so creating my own lane and generating clientele has been challenging, but definitely rewarding. They don’t call it stepping out on faith for nothing. I’m a big believer in God and I’ve been blessed to do what I’ve always wanted to do and to be in rooms with legends in the entertainment industry.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Skin by Cen story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m most known for the way I do skin and my creativity. I pride myself on the fact that I do all types of makeup. Commercial, editorial, a little special effects, and the really creative stuff- that’s my favorite! I’m truly proud of the work I’ve put into this skincare line I’m getting ready to drop. I’ve been making it and using it on my clients, and making it for some of my industry peers, now it’s time for me to share it with the world.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The great thing about working as a makeup artist is that throughout all of the trends that come and go, true skill and the classic looks will remain timeless. With the help of social media, the makeup artists are getting more exposure than ever before. I foresee that continuing to happen. Makeup is fun, it’s art, it inspires.
